For shits and giggles I started looking into this as genuine or SE parts for these are getting scarce..... and old.
So did a bit of google research and there are at least a couple of module options, of the two I've come across one fits in the points area and the other is external.
Thinking the external unit would have an easier life not being in an oven an all, so sort of concentrated on that line of thought.
Some of the original wiring would become redundant and could either be removed or tidied up and left in place, wiring doesn't faze me, can still read a schematic, with glasses on lol.
So parts list would look something like this....
    Daytona twin tec stuff.
    1007-EX ignition module
18010 Voes kit-to replace map sensor
    18004 Timing rotor
    Additional stuff ...
    Dyna DC6-4 coil or....
    Accel Super Coil 140407 x 2
Both are 3 ohm coils, the Accel's have more bite.
So it got me thinking, when this little set up was thought up there was no M8, the softail M8 has a neat 4 post coil, dual plug heads, sorta similar.
So my question is are the M8 coils single fire or do they waste the spark and what ohms are they? Anyone know?

    The M8 coils I believe are around 0.5 Ὡ .
The front and the rear coils fire separately ( 3 wire, +ve supply and -ve trigger ), but fire both plugs together.

Thanks mate, that's the same as the standard and SE coils for this model, no good with the Daytona module, shame but lots of 3 ohm options out there if it ever happens.
PS, would also need an older cam position sensor, they have the 80A listed, the sports have a 94A, I have no clue as to the difference, both are hall effect sensors, voltage maybe 🤷

    I always enjoy a technical challenge 👍

So maybe I missed it, do you have a 1200s ?
They were quite a hot rod back in the day .
A mate owned one way back.

I brought a brand spanker 1996 version as my first HD off the showroom floor, the engine was the same spec as the other 1200's for 96-97, I remember riding away up Boulder Road thinking what have I done, sounded like a sewing machine and less power than a mates ride on mower 😂, sorted air in and out and rode it for 8 years.
For 98-03 they got the twin plug heads and the W cam's, I was considering getting an fxr for a second bike, now I'm a bit undecided, a sportster sport would fit better here, lighter bike, thinking about it.

A Buell Ulysses would be a fun island bike 😁.

I had thought about an FXR , but it would end up costing a packet because I would likely transplant a TC or M8 .

The 1200S would be getting a bit thin on the ground too I guess ?

I'm guessing you would be the only bloke on the island who owns two harleys.
You need to get a lock-up shed or garage in Stanley and keep one of them there.  :)

A nice looking bike too !

Good excuse for bike number 3 you reckon? 😁
Hopefully it arrives in the same condition as I got it in, like a kid waiting for Christmas now lol

    Nice one 👍
Good to have something new to play with .
I'm guessing freight would be a bit tricky ?

Yeah the island freight took some figuring out but it's set up now, never used to be complicated but things have changed a lot in 30 years.....not for the better either.

Hey Steve, I was looking at shinko E805's for the back and E804's for the front, they sell a 19" front in them, not an expensive tyre, think I will try the 19 and see how it goes before I look at a 21, I don't know how old the tyres on it are, I'll check the date codes when I get it, if they are serviceable I'll run them out before I buy new ones, cheers.

Don't know much about Shinkos Hilly, never bought them. Have ridden one, don't know the model number. On the back of a mates bombed up Vic, private import from the states, with the ultimate possible development of a Vic 106 motor, bored to 116, cammed, Lloyds torque tube intakes, higher flow Chevy injectors, Power Commander, and methodically developed in a shop with its own dyno, 70 dyno runs.
American dyno charts were showing 130hp.
It didn't run as strongly on Oz fuel, Oz dyno charts were showing just under120. Still, a strong motor to challenge any tyre.
I rode it up Mt Tomewin back of the Goldy on a drizzly day during the border closure. If you don't know the Mt Tomewin road, think a shorter narrower version of FNQ's Gillies Highway.
The bike spun up the Shinko on every corner exit no matter how careful I was with the throttle. Had me worried being a mates bike.
Don't really know if I'd recommend Shinkos after that, but then it was an extreme test.
If you do want to go to a laced 21 front eventually, and you are confident in lacing your own wheels, and drilling and tapping to mount a 2nd disk, I've got a 1990 hub currently laced into a 19" taking up space in my shed. Taking bolt cutters to the rusty spokes would save transport cost. I think the 1999 would be 3/4" axle?

Thanks for the offer of the hub Steve, I will keep that in mind if the path heads in that direction, I'm not too worried about the tyres, they would most certainly be an improvement over road tyres on gravel roads and I don't expect them to last very long given what they will be subjected to, when I get around to it I think I will fabricate a stone guard, you can buy them from various places but they are a bit on the dear side for the decent ones with shipping attached, I won't be rallying it per say but there are some knarly stretches with rubble surfaces that will most certainly have stones flicking up underneath at times, waiting on the boat to fill up freight wise now, be a couple of weeks by the look of it.

Not many choices in 16 rear dual sport tyres .
Kenda big block K784 is another decent choice.
So it's on the slow boat ! , bummer .

That time of the year unfortunately, there was another way but the cost was eye watering.
