Hi, I have a 42 WLA, not restored as the original army bike, and want to change out the oilbath air cleaner for a more common round air cleaner straight of the carby. Can anyone please tell me what may fit?

    Thank you

Hi Mick and Hi everyone...been a while!..Anyhuw, so it’s a 1942 WLA model you have. As you mentioned “oilbath air cleaner” your bike is fitted with a Linkert M88 model carburetor (the model number is stamped on a pad like, top of the carburetor body) those carburetors are very easy to tune and to repair as they were built to be used for military purposes .What I would suggest is a 6inch round air cleaner. You should find them easily on the net (6” Linkert 4bolts air cleaner) there are some genuine original ones on sale out there (although pretty expensive) but I would personally go with a replica from a reputable company for durability(paughco etc...) ,another option is to use a plate conversion for Linkert carburetor air cleaner which would give you more options to use different styles (S&S models etc...)
    Cheers
