Comp Cam Lifters

I've been running the Comp Cam 850's for a couple of years now, no issues to date that I'm aware of, was thinking I should get another set on the shelf for when I need to change them, some time back I spotted a new lifter being offered by Comp Cams that matched the 850's dimensionally.
I asked a bloke I know in the states that uses 850's in all his customers bikes if he had used them, at the time he said that was the first he had heard of them so I just forgot about them as I'd just fitted new 850's anyway.
Because I'm thinking about lifters again I thought I would see what others thought of them now being it's 2 or 3 years later, turns out I can't find anyone that is using them on any of the forums, they are all still in love with the Larry's lifters.
I wrote to Comp Cam's to see what their take would be running them in a Harley regarding oiling to the top end.....their response.....
The 85001 evolution lifters are a direct replacement for the 850 lifters. We do not restrict any oiling on these and you should not have any oiling issues.
This is a link to the lifters in question.....

What ya's reckon? They look like a good thing to me but I'm up for a chat about it 😁

I think I've wasted more money on lifters than anything !
What I will say, if the 850's work for you, why not just stick with them.
I have used both the 850 and the 875 , and both worked fine for me .

The current set of lifters i'm using are Johnson Hylift (topline) that came from ebay.
I have a new set of very rare NLA S&S premiums with limiters on the shelf you can have for a small fortune !!

I wonder where APE ( Cycle Rama ? ) source their lifters from ?

The bold italics are the bits that got my interest....

COMP Cams Evolution Series hydraulic roller lifters with Hydraulic Cartridge Technology (HCT) are revolutionary patented tappets. A combination of a self-contained hydraulic cartridge within a thick-wall lifter body and accompanying reduced oil volume that is less effected by oil aeration delivers the most consistent bleed rates between each lifter on the market. The smaller volume within the hydraulic cartridge creates one of the most responsive and quietest lifters on the market today. Startup noise is greatly reduced, and a precision-controlled bleed down rate ensures excellent performance at high RPM. The cartridge design also allows for an incredibly stiff lifter body, greatly reducing body distortion and further ensuring consistent hydraulic performance. The patented HCT tappets are a completely new design that was developed specifically by COMP Cams to meet the demanding performance and durability required for modern street and performance street engines. The HCT and proprietary manufacturing processes of these lifters ensure precision and longevity that exceed any lifter on the market. Other features include increased duration and lift to the camshaft and two oiling features. Another industry first is the fact that the hydraulic element of this patented lifter is serviceable, allowing anyone to rebuild lifters in his or her own garage. Order the Evolution lifters recommended for your year/make and engine application.

I ran the S&S premiums in the wideglide with the 44mags, were still in it when I sold it, shame they stopped making them.
The 850's might get another run yet, just exploring my options 😁
The Ape ones are not expensive enough to be a rebranded "recognised high end" brand so unless Murph wants to spill the beans we will never know lol.
My 2313SE experience left me a little gun shy, I know any lifter brand can and do have failures but even my Gatormans held up longer than them.

Larry also sells the Delphi lifters pretty cheaply .
He has stated they are the same as the original S&S standards .

I had read about the Comp cams lifter cartridges, and don't really get the advantage .
It is almost like a lifter inside a lifter !
I also wouldn't expect many people will bother "rebuilding" the internals, as stated as one advantage .

Seeing as you are living dangerously these days ( lithium bomb under you 😁 ) , I think you should try them 👍
I believe they would likely work without any issues .

Edit to add I noticed Fuel Moto stocking them, so they must work OK !

The bomb got a chuckle out of me 😁, I'm leaning that way, giving them a go I mean, I didn't know Jamie was selling them either, interesting, the rebuilding bit is flog really as the first thing to let go will likely be the needle bearings, anyway thanks for chiming in, always good to get your perspective on things 👍
