Well a old villain is out even after pleading guilty .... Mr Mokbel after being  double crossed by his barrister who was in fact working for the cops. No doubt about his guilt but there is a set of rules that must be followed here in order for our system to function. Funnily the actors have got away without repercussions so is the system broken?

Lots of bullets flying around those circles these days, if I was him I'd be keeping a very low profile, I dunno if it's broken but it sure does seem to be a little different in application at times 🤔

    "Is the system broken?"

The senior police in charge of the whole Nicola Gobbo situation must have known that what they were doing was wrong. The fact that, at least to my knowledge, none of them have been hauled through the legal system makes me think that, in some senses, the system is broken.

Like the layers of government it seems that its near impossible to find the key person who signed off to start this mess. All thats known known is Nicola Gobbo is somewhere with a different name being handsomely rewarded for her betrayal of not only her own client but the system she was sworn to uphold.

The conspiracy theory side of me cant help wondering why the VIC top end of the Cop town are doing a bit of musical chairs…. The practical side thinks they cant work with the Commo Government there...

Well perhaps stoking the conspiracy fire seems like a few yrs back the Vic government pushed through a law capping compensation to people wrongly convicted/jailed to a max of $1million. Yet funnily enough the informant, Nicola Gobbo was paid $2.88mil after suing the government.

So today we now have the names of the four cops who formed a “joint criminal enterprise”to recruit Nicola Gobbo to dob in Tony Mokbel. Two of them are/were senior cops  Jim O'Brien, the head of the former Purana taskforce formed to investigate Melbourne's gangland war, and Inspector Dale Flynn. Also complacent was  John Champion, the former director of public prosecutions. Interestingly NONE of them are being charged with a raft of possible charges ranging from corruption to joint criminal enterprise and the then DPP Champion is now a Supreme court judge has been exonerated on the grounds that he  "made an error in judgment".
Just for the record i don't believe that drug dealers who flee, and then plead guilty deserve anything less than what's coming....what i do believe in is the system and when you use your power and influence to change outcomes and then lay judgement on other is hypocritical. Guess its Victoria who used rubber bullets on its population and ruined peoples lives over covid yet allow this.

John Champion may still be complacent

I get your point about the guilty plea. But I assume he did this on his lawyers advice. Who was on the copper's payroll.

Absolutely, the guilty plea was put to him by his Barrister and one would assume the inducement that was forthcoming with that plea of reduction in sentence etc. Its a fucking huge mess and should this conviction be overturned then Victoria is going to have to compensate him for assets seized that were valued at $20mill back in 2001, Among them was a country pub, former pizza shop, several houses, an apartment complex, horse farm, two shopping complexes and a development site in Brunswick, holiday flat in Noosa, Ferrari, Mercedes and several bank accounts.

Huge mess alright. If his conviction is overturned - and I reasonably expect it will be - there will be a queue of other clients of Gobbo lining up.

And even more surprising is she's already sued the Vic government and won!

Lucky she got in early. Given the state of the state's finances, they'll have to start flogging stuff off if they have to return Mr Mokbel's proceeds of crime :-)

Hot on the heels of the Mokbel farce we have just seen the Vic government payout a rumoured "In excess of $4 million " to a man who was framed by Vic police for the murder of two police in 2002. Jason Roberts was sentenced to life and spent over 22yrs in jail over the matter. Police fabricated evidence, replaced evidence, concealed evidence and destroyed evidence to get the conviction. No further action will be taken against any of the numerous police that facilitated this conviction. Vic government are now involved in a legal battle to suppress the names.

    That sickens me!

I knew a bloke many years ago would had a career criminal uncle, was in and out of jail all the time, story goes he got stitched up for a gold robbery by the bloke the GJ's blew up in the west when he was still a detective, did a few years for it, didn't bother him, apparently he reckoned he got away with way more than he was caught for and being stitched up was an occupational hazard! I'd be as dirty as!
