Gear selection not showing when at low speeds - 2023 Heritage

I have a (new to me) 2023 HD Heritage Classic, which I'm loving.

I notice when I change gear, the gear selection is shown when riding at normal speed.

However, if slowing down, the gear selection is not shown. It reappears when you're travelling at speed.

This is frustrating, as you sometimes miss the gear you're in when stopped. (Generally, not a big issue, especially if you're taking off in 2nd, for example).

    Thoughts?

I have a fatboy and the gear indicator on the speedo doesn't show when the clutch lever is in.

    OK, thanks...that's a helpful tip.

I guess the moto of the story is, make sure you know what gear you're in before you stop.....!!

The ECU determines the gear by your vehicle speed and RPM. Change one of those variables (like pull your clutch in) and it can't tell.

I think the VVT or latest bikes may have a provision for an actual gear position sensor within the gearbox, could be wrong though.

Thanks. If it's done electronically, then it's dumb. My bike is 2023. Cheers.
