Well, I'm bored with the current paint so have bought a spare set of tins over the past while and can paint them without having to take the bike off the road - which is a plus for me as that's my daily commuter.  Thought I would start this thread and jots down things as I progress so that its all in one spot.

So... starting with a set of factory tins in okay condition....(Tank / front and rear fenders/and both side covers)
    1. Sand @ 150 to get the shine off the original clearcoat
    2. Bog up the dings (I use Normfest Body Fillers - pricy but top of the line)
    3. High Solid Primer (spraycan oddly enough) to fill the sanding scratches and bog job
    4. Sand back @ 320/400/600 to prep and then lay down black spraycan basecoat
    5. Flake is next - smaller this time at 370 micron but still need a 1.7mm spray gun.  Flake is mixed with a 2 pack intercoat clear designed for flake so that the flake actually stays in suspension for an hour or so rather than instantly sinking to the bottom.  About 3 coats in the end to get coverage.
    6. Then about 4 coats of intercoat clear to seal in the flake
    7. Sand back @ 600 and we are now ready for the fine line tape which starts tonight!

    Products:
    DNA Paints all the way.

Underway… covered with clear plastic first and sketched the basic idea out.  Then buggered about procrastinating for yonks before finally starting.  Everything now flows from this section …

Still on it.  Life and gardening is taking its toll.  I have done more so will post tonight.  A good example of one of the PIA issues with fine line tape.
