If you don't mind me asking, why do you suspect a diode is the problem? And is the diode not available from electronic retailers? I've got a disassembled 90 Sportster one that didn't like the end of the handle bar being hit with a big copper hammer while straightening out crash damage, and I've not got around to trying to troubleshoot its internals.

Don't try Harley for the part. I used to build and repair electronics as a kid. Most are colour coded. Maybe send a pic to a place like this. https://www.diodes.com/
Saved my arse a few times.

You could try one of the electronic industry preferred suppliers, Farnell or RS.
The diode will probably have some sort of identifier on it ( could be on the circuit board side when soldered in), so you might have to remove it to see the markings. Makes it easier to send pics if required anyway.

IN4007 or larger (IN4008 or 9) will do the trick.  Its just a diode....so pop down to JAYCAR.
Have done this in the past to get a Tacho working.
