Hey guys, just brought a dyna 2012 super glide custom from the auctions and realised the engine has had some work done to it. i was curious if there was a way i could find out previous owners details to perhaps get in touch and find out exactly what's been done? or is there any other way of finding what the previous owner has done?

also, i am desperately in need of a better seat then the one i have. its very comfy for a smaller guy but I'm tall and it pushes me so far forward almost on the tank.

    Thanks all.

It'd be tough to find the previous owner unless you know someone in the policing/registration arena and then them telling you would be a no no, you could try the area HD shops to see if they recognise it?
Seats are a personal thing, there are Harley ones that will work for you plus the aftermarket is awash with choice, probably need to chuck the leg over as many as you can to see if you can find something you like, Saturday morning at any hd dealer will provide plenty of options if you can handle that scene.

if you have the same rego plate, perhaps contact some HD dealers in the area you got it, they may be able to tell you what has been done, this is also assuming the work was done by a dealer

Thanks so much for the response guys! I have tried contacting all dealers in Perth and was able to find an old 2013 service at one dealer but the dealer tried to call that number and was disconnected. Looks like I might be out of luck on that one. As for the seat yeah I will try some after market options I guess. The one that came with the bike really really pushes you forward I guess for a shorter rider it’s perfect but I’m very tall so I need one pushing me back. Once again thanks so much for your responses guys appreciate it 💪🏼💪🏼

If you pop the cam cover off there is a very good chance you will be able to see what cams are in it as most are stamped on the end you can see, do it on the side stand and you will only loose a minimum of oil, going by whatever cam is in it you could surmise the level of work to a degree. Meaning some cams will work great in an otherwise stock engine while others require supporting modifications to perform well.
Harley have reduced reach seats for most models to cater for short arses, you might have one of those, they also have seats for the longer inseam types, have a look in the HD accessories manual, it's a rabbit hole this Harley gig.

I have a mechanic coming around to have a look at the bike on Tuesday so I will ask him a few more questions on the bike, i can post up some pics of the bike if you guys want to maybe try see any mods that might have been done to it? it really does need a bit of work before i can get it ready for road worthy and licensing. but that s&s badge on the heads are making me think either has had head work or a complete s&s engine? not to sure.

That looks like the tuned induction system that S&S sell. Could also be a 106 top-end. Have a look for a VIN on the engine.
I was going to suggest checking in with Thunder Tech in Bellevue. If it had been tuned there , they may even have a list of mods, but it looks like they closed their doors in January.

Oh dam thats unfortunate :( i can't seem to find any vin or any numbers on the engine. but it says super s&s stock on the other side of the engine?

Is there a VIN on the downtube, or you could check the rego papers if you have any.
You could check whether it is a 1HD or a 5HD bike. It may be an import because the dollar was pretty good for a few years about 2012, 2013, 2014.
I'd be inclined to think that an independent shop may have done some work on it; a Dealer would have pushed a Screamin' Eagle upgrade.

Retroman is about due for a check-in. He knows his way around the Harley scene in Perth and may be able to suggest a couple of independent shops who may have worked on it.

Interesting, the heads are definitely S&S and if the super stock badging is on the engine case it's likely an S&S engine, it's probably got adjustable push rods, the covers give that away, as 408 said that's the tuned intake from S&S, wonder what size it is, might be a 124", let us know what you find out.

    Retroman Perth here.

I don't recognise the bike personally , but so many bikes over so many years maybe a maybe..

I do all the aftermarket ECM reflashing ( aka 'TUNING") for a couple of the Perth Indy shops.

They tend to do the Non SE parts builds. Think S&S cams /heads Woods cams etc etc. the list is HUGE...

The HD dealers (3 of in the Perth metro) almost exclusively do builds with Screamin Eagle kits.

Now I am hoping you got at least one alarm fob with that bike ? And one that is FOR the bike, not some random fob found around the auction house/ I have seen that before.

That is almost 100% deffo a dealer trip to have them code a new fob to the bike. Again I have seen that before....

Does it run ? Sorry if I missed that in the text. Throttle body hanging off looks less than ideal unless you did that ?

Or did it get belted off in the bingle ?

PS the seat is a second hand $200 fix off Gumtree easily. NO WORRIES THERE !

Hey retro, yes I did get one fob key :)) I’m very glad about that. I did manage to charge the battery a little just to get a dash reading of the odo it’s done 54701kms. The throttle body has been snapped off and the screws are stuck so I couldn’t turn it on :( unfortunately I have no mechanical experience to be able to work on the bike my self. I have contacted the hog doctor to help me out he is a mobile mechanic who will come out have a look at the bike tomorrow but had injured him self and won’t be able to work my bike for at least a month. So for the things I need to get that for it from what I can see is new forward controls, as I have contacted everyone possible and no one sells individual parts for the hawg halter forward controls :( so I have to buy some cheap replacement for now. And new filters for the air cleaner I found them for $100 each on a website? The tank has a minor little dent and needs to be pulled and painted, do does the front fender I have been quoted $500 to fix both and painted. And new handle bar grips with clutch and brake lever. And that’s about all really oh and rear indicators. And then my main issue I guess is that snapped off throttle body ! Once I can figure that one out how to get that back on I guess I could start it (I can’t wait to hear it) then I will most definitely have to catch up with you for that tune 💪🏼 hehe.  I have looked everywhere for a seat I cannot find a 2 up seat for a good price there all $500 plus ?  Thank you soooo much for the reply’s and help

If you dont mind me asking how much did you pay for the bike?
It's hard to tell by the pics but there doesn't appear to be any major damage done.
Are you planning on putting it back on the road or using it at the track?

Hey mate I paid $6000 all up inc auction fees and tow back to my place. I’m hoping I got it for a good price ? I want it for the road 💪🏼 hehe no track use, the throttle bottle is snapped off and the air cleaner filters are vents and need replacing also, tank and front fender is damaged and needs repairs and paint. The forward controls are all grinded off and need replacing, the derby cover is grinded to. And then it’s just little things from there , front handle bar grips and levers and mirrors and rear indicators. That’s about it from what I can see
