Harley Davidson deluxe 2006 has a reasonably loud tapping sound from top of motor. Is it fixable

    I have a tapping noise coming from top of my motor and am hoping that it is not a major and need a rebuild or replacement

    G'day.
    Working on the assumptions that:
    1. the post isn't rhetorical,
    2. that you have zero mechanical knowledge and,
    3. you're genuinely asking is it fixable:-
    Everything is fixable.
    If your bike has a knock it didn't have before, don't run it again until you know why.
    It could be as simple as a perished bushing or a gummed up lifter, or as serious as a bent valve.
    If you don't have the mechanical knowledge to figure it out, you're going to have to take it to someone.
    It's not really the sort of thing that can be diagnosed remotely.
    Apologies if my assumptions are incorrect, but you weren't getting any answers.

    Yeah, I thought about that, and it does, but could also be a newb with no fkn idea, and not enough manners to create a proper profile.

    Then book it in to one of the results for a service.
    Trailer it there.
    It will cost what it will cost.

    Ignore the tosspots here matey.  All Harleys make some top end noise.

    if its very bad and a new noise and your not mechanically inclined then trailer it to say Harley Heaven or a good harley mechanic for them to have a squiz.

    Jenko I usually try to help, we have a serial pest that comes an goes an he has sucked me in more than once, all good brother, helping each other is what it's all about.

    Ive tried to change my name but I cant figure out how to do it.
    I have been accused of actually bashing up harmless little mutts just because I needed to invent a name for myself.

    Very well said. If someone turns out to be baiting and you have tried to do a good turn then any joke certainly isn't on you.

    I know what you mean about some people with no idea.
    A bloke at work was telling me about his BMW. He was telling me all about how good it was and that coppers use them all over the world. He's had it for a couple of years.  I had no fuckin interest but just to be polite I asked if it was a shaft drive.
    He looked at me with a confused look on his dial and said he didn't know. I asked him to show me a pic of it and informed him it was indeed a shaft drive. He seemed happy about that and thanked me for letting him know.  We all know that BMW riders are weird fuckers anyway but I don't understand how it's possible to own a bike for 2 years and not know that. 
    Goes without saying the bike was ugly as fuck.

    I know that's a worm on a hook Beagle, I shouldn't take a bite but...
    The Beemer Boxer twin has been going before WWII . I have an R1250 GSA; Shaft drive ,shift cam, quick shifter, ABS, TCS, Wilbers Electronic Suspension Adjustment and Full titanium Akrapovic exhaust. It has a tank range of 600kms, sounds great, handles predictably and has decent wind protection. It maybe weird to own something that comes together so well as an overall package. Of course being part of this forum, I also own and love a 131 FLHTKSE - with belt drive. 
    Beauty is subjective but not always relevant. The photos show a dog that I would love to own (for so many reasons other than looks) The next dog is not ugly. I'll take the Staffy, you take the pretty one .
