    Check the "new" battery is indeed NEW. Happens all the time. they can lie on shelves for years !
    Check the "new" battery is in the right way round, not 180 degrees out. Happens all the time.
    check it's a CR2032 , there are others VERY similar size.
    lastly the "genuine" HD batteries ( which are made by Panasonic) give the least grief.
