DTT settings again!

Gday fellas it’s been a while. A fair while back I had a discussion going about about dtt tc88 module settings regarding my 88 to 103 build in my 01 fxdwg. This engine was a constant worry as I had all sorts of trouble getting it tuned right to eliminate detonation. Anyway long story cut short this engine eventually destroyed itself after only 30 odd thousand km costing plenty due to a poor quality build to start with. So decided to go a brand new S&S T111 crate motor and upgrading my clutch and replacing the compensator with a stock new one. Done about 4500 km on it now and it’s a lovely torquey engine. I left the dtt settings of 1 initial and 3 advance slope which is what I had to have on the old motor to help eliminate detonation as well as rich ending up my Mikuni hsr42. Well this engine ( t111) doesn’t ping at all so I have increased the settings to 2 and 4,still no pinging so I’m trialling 3 and6 but haven’t done a WOT test yet in a high gear roll on.The S&S owner’s manual gives ignition settings for this motor that seem pretty tame compared to the dtt advanced slope diagrams in the dtt manual. Comp in this engine is 9.8 same as my old 103,585 geardrive cams, the stock S&S 91cc heads and gaskets they use are 043” when compressed composite gaskets. Any advice on dtt settings for this setup would be much appreciated using the dials only. My Mikuni is currently running a 167.5 main,25 pilot,96 needle rather than the stock 97 raised 1 clip position,70 pump nozzle adjusted to start pumping immediately.

Let me think about that mate.  Can you provide any more details?

Gday mate well this about all I can add I think.on the left is the recommended settings from the S&S T series owner’s manual and on the right is the chart out of the DTT TC88 module showing the effect of various timing slopes and throttle positions. I have contacted S&S via email explaining the above but they may not respond positively as the modules not an S&S product.

Do yourself a huge favour, and get it on a dyno to sort out the fuel and timing.

I've found with the mikuni you can be several points off with the AFR and it will still run well, so unless you have an AFR meter, it's just guess work.

Timing is even harder to get right than fuel.

If you can match up a timing curve on the DTT with the S&S suggestion, I'd go with that until you can have it checked.
