Oil cooler fans

Been thinking of ways to keep the 103 cooler in the heat, after a bit of research and brain busting I chucked on a couple of 80mm computer fans in front of the cooler, just zip tied em on with a heap of ties, then added the chrome guards to stop any big stones from destroying the plastic fans.
The fans are rated i.p 55 so unless you are riding through heavy rain they will be ok ( wouldnt need em in the rain anyhow). I powered them up with good old scotch locks ( ha ha ) using the accessories wire which I also use for the 120mm fan behind the rear cylinder. Earthed to the frame. Ran wire conduit along the frame to protect the wiring.
They are set to blow the air through the cooler.
I have the EITMS enabled and yesterday it was around 32 degrees coming back from work, I flicked em on whenever I stopped and normally the EITMS would have kicked in but not once did it come on, even after a couple of minutes at the lights.
I noticed (with some difficulty I might add) that at 80 kmh the air spun the fans too, so maybe that helps too ??
Without any temp gauge or way of checking the difference its all just theory I realise but it appears to work so who knows ?
If you are wondering about clearance to the front guard, it is ok even when you push the front down as hard as I can...I will keep posted how they handle it.

Melbourne eh?, I'd reckon it's not really the weather just the friggin traffic lights. Just like any big city. You don't often get hot oil concerns when riding merrily along an open road.

I live in Townsville, no oil cooler or fans, plenty of traffic lights, the tune is fuel sensitive if it's really hot, mines tuned on 95, as long as that's what's in the tank when the temps are up there it's happy as, if I I'm out in the boondocks and running 91 along with mad temps, I just be nice with the right hand and all is well, it don't ping.

That means I talk shit. Ha ha.
I live in Death Valley and only ride in the height of summer and have made a set of traffic lights that is always red just past my driveway. I sit there for hours with no oil in the bike at all, just idling.
Bike does not even get warm.
    Go figure,

Not at all, sitting at lights at any temp the bike will do whatever its programmed to do, nothing to do with any individual.

Okay then, guess I best look into working out how to "program" my Shovel and Evo.

I can only go by what I know, and also from what I have read on the motor company history, they had problems with heat when developing the twin cam engines due to the increased capacity which in turn created more heat.
This must ring true because look at the m8 motors which have oil and coolant running through them. If they didnt could you imagine the head temps which would lead to valve seats near on melting and the knock on effects.

You alos need to consider that part of the reason in going to water/oil cooling is the Treehuggers/EPA laws on emmissions that drive very lean running engines - and hence a lot hotter motor.  Once you tweak the ECU to richen up the AFR then a lot of the problems will go away.

I ran my Evo turbo in full summer for years with no heat problems (providing it was fuled correctly - ie ran a little rich)

For sure the twin cams run hot, all I'm saying is with a better state of tune that can be alleviated to a large degree.
Carby bikes, well I dunno, the two carby Harley's I've owned never gave me any trouble, they were an Evo sporty and an 01 twin cam, the twin cam came out as an 88", mine was a 103" 120/120 get up, had adjustable ignition but I never played with it as it had been set up by the builder, had that when I lived in MacKay, sporty was in Kalgoorlie mostly but did reside in MacKay for awhile, I've spent the last 18 years in Townsville, 2x injected twin cams here, the 06 wideglide used to ping under load from new! Once I got my head around the software available and how to road tune I got it sorted, actually got a dyno bloke to tune that bike when first changed the filter and mufflers, he did sweet fa as I found out later, that was back in the PCIIIUSB days, both my EFI twincams have/had many different cams through them over the years, no stranger to heat, warmer climates are my thing it seems.
