    G'day
I've just gone 70 and bought my last HD. Started off in about 1981 with a Sporty and now finishing with a sporty. Ok so here's my problem.

All's I want to do is put a set of Screamin Eagle pipes on the bike. Not easy at all. Either HD dealers dont sell them, tell me they're $2k for just the mufflers, HD stopped shipping to Aust etc.

Dont know what's going on. I bought a set of Khrome Weks HP mufflers but they are so so loud.

OK I don't want loud, just a rumble so figured the Screamin Eagle would be a nice slightly louder sound than stock.

So can't afford to keep buying pipes. So any recommendations for a Screamin Eagle kind of sound with another brand since I can't seem to buy the Screamin Eagle.

Rather than buy a full set, don’t Krome Werks still make quieter inserts for their mufflers.  A mate has the ones pictured on his Twin Cam and they sound great.  As you say, not too loud, nothing like BigRadius etc.
Sorry bloody photo won’t add?? They are Krome Werks 2” HP Plus Baffles, they look a bit like a mesh. Believe they have different sizes.

Cheers for the reply they got them but they only drop the volume by 4 decibels...which is not a lot.
All the other big brands don't get great reviews on their quiet baffles.
Last bike a Deluxe had V and H really nice but Sportster runs a tad louder stock.
At my age it's a city bike and just don't need EPA dramas

I remember the older HD Screamin Eagle mufflers for Sporty's.  They were a great choice for those that wanted a nice sound without being too loud.  Those aren't available any more for the newer Sporty's.  HD now have the Street Cannon mufflers for newer  sportsters.  Not sure what availability is like in Aus.

Yep the SE were great before 2006 when they had to be legal .well HD wanted that.
Some dealers tell as they aren't legal here HD stopped selling them
My old Victa mower is louder.

But Cheers maybe buy them from the US...never thought of that. My be a bloody good idea.

Try a set of lollipops. That is what I have to quieten the ridiculously loud straight through mufflers on my 95 Sportster and the Staintune mufflers without baffles on my Triumph.

    Cheers, Will

Yes seen those but not sure maybe just sell these nicely made but stupidly loud Krome Werks..dealer really steered me wrong there.
Put that to the SE mufflers I figure.

I installed a couple of washers into a set of aftermarket baffles just like that and it worked well enough for a RWC.

    Hi Cranky,
Have the same bike with the same mufflers and found them too loud aswell.
The system that Kromeworks supply to quiet them down is just a threaded rod with nuts and washers, so I got a longer stainless threaded rod and nuts and washers, used multiple washers and nuts, and moved them up and down the rod untill I found the sound I wanted.
A bit of mucking around but it works for under $30.

Pedro yes pal that's exactly what they sell. You figured that well man.
Quick question did you like halve the volume?

They are really nice well finished pipes just a pity about the sound.
Plus bike ran way way rough with them on....so might need the whole stage 1....not spending that on my last HD so might just change tyres a bit of body face lift and all good

    It's a town bike...long trips are now a past thing....sadly.

Cranky, I wouldn't say it halved the volume, but it did make a big difference.
One thing I found is the closer you can get the rear washer to the outlet, the quieter it becomes. It also gives you more back pressure which serms to make the bike run smoother.
You could try the old trick of fiberglass in stainless flyscreen. Ha ha🤣

    Cheers Pedro.
Might grab some steel wool from the sink as well.

Seen a YouTube video that measured SE idling at 78 decibels but I think 105 db on the throttle. They were using proper gear to measure the sound.

    Steel wool works !
Many years ago I repacked mine , the pillow stuffing wore out .
Was a nice deep note , not legal maybe , but quieter than straight thru

Cranky you have spent good hard money on those mufflers, so i agree with all those suggestions above that you have a bash at making / modding them quieter....never come across a set yet that you cannot quieten, one way or another....& its cheaper...good luck!

I really regret selling this one .
From my limited ‘ looking ‘ the new owner bought it and was on this forum for a while …like 10 yrs ago .
It was a beast of a bike - I did the cams ,carb etc .
Was fast ( relatively speaking) and loud , handled great .
The newer ones weren’t a patch on these old uns

Oh and apologies to original poster
If you need the part numbers - shout out .
Slash downs in chrome # 80363-99
    Strait cut in chrome #80110-97
    Baloney cut # 80102-97
These are the ‘early numbers ‘ till 04 ish as the mufflers were deemed not road use in USA - but give ‘em a go

I really like the Spotster Sport.  There was one in mint original condition for sale on Gumtree recently for $12k.  It didn't last long.
