Perth to Melbourne trip

I'm planning on riding my Road King solo from Perth to Melbourne and looking at the planning stage now. Leaving Perth I've allocated 6 days of riding to Melbourne basing this on about 600km a day (with stops, a few sidetracks for a look etc) but never done this trip before (I've done Perth - Exmouth previously and averaging anywhere between 500-700k's per day) but wary that I need to off the roads between dusk and dawn.
Interested to get some thoughts from others who have done this route before - my plan is to bypass Adelaide and drop through Clare valley, Mt. Gamber and then via great ocean road into Melbourne. Thanks.

Sounds like a good plan, smell the roses, too easy to just rush through, lots to see.

Nowadays it's a piece of piss crossing from one side to the other. Done it 5 times over the years. First time was from Melbourne to Perth in 1974. Old man picked up a job on a station near Moora. Now that was an adventure as alot of the way was just dirt and bulldust. After it was sealed it just became a normal drive in the country. As has been said, take it easy and enjoy the sights and if you do break down don't worry to much, somebody will be along shortly.

Sounds like an item to tick off you're bucket list.
Have done it a few times on bikes from WA and return, I'd make the first leg to Esperance via Corrigin and Kulin on the Tin horse Hwy, then Esp to Cocklebiddy, then maybe to Nullabour RH, then on to Streaky Bay around the bottom of SA to Port Augusta. Plenty of routes to bypass Adeliade from there. Good luck with the planning and adventures along the way.
Off topic from riding across was on the Indian Pacific train, great time had indeed.
