one would need to be on the electoral role to get a fine for not voting, I would doubt the were, I also would say "they would not class themselves as Australian"

Not been on the electoral role will attract a $20 fine for not voting, they track you via the tax file No and address. I've had first-hand experience on that one. Doubt the desert and other fringe dwellers would meet the TFN criteria?

    I'm happy paying the 20.

If you are asked why you did not vote just quote the bible: Romans 13:2

Then you are exempt from voting
    True story

    Romans 13:2
Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

Er so if I resist, I shall receive to myself damnation.

You on paper, Your studying to become a Jehovah’s Witnesses  you believe in gods government and will not vote as it offends God
This will get you out of voting in Australia
    Been there done that.

Jehovah’s Witnesses remain politically neutral for religious reasons, based on what the Bible teaches. We do not lobby, vote for political parties or candidates, run for government office, or participate in any action to change governments. We believe that the Bible gives solid reasons for following this course.

We follow the example of Jesus, who refused to accept political office. (John 6:15) He taught his disciples to be “no part of the world” and made it clear that they should not take sides in political issues.—John 17:14, 16; 18:36; Mark 12:13-17.

We are loyal to God’s Kingdom, which Jesus spoke of when he said: “This good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth.” (Matthew 24:14) As representatives of God’s Kingdom, commissioned to proclaim its coming, we remain neutral in the political affairs of all countries, including the one where we live.—

Budget papers reveal the $364.6 million cost of delivering the Voice referendum......and its looking like it wont get up. This is the cost Labor is prepared to spend on 3.2% of the population while distracting 96.8% of us from the failed promises that got them into power.

It's a farce.  That money would've been better spent on encoding free speech into the constitution.  Like the U.S's First Amendment.  What a clown show the state of free speech is in this country.  This was highlighted by the recent defamation case by Ben Roberts-Smith.

Well nobody ever said that democracy is cheap. This way, we will know what the Australian people think about this matter, and what the various states populations think about it. It will be interesting to see which way it goes.

I want to know where I can read the legislation in its entirety.
I don’t trust any side of politics, all pigs at the trough in my opinion.
But I want to read ALL of it to see what else they will try to get through.

But I want to read ALL of it to see what else they will try to get through.

This is  basis of peoples reluctance , the government essentially want us to trust it with a free pass. There is no legislation they will make it up once its passed. This from the governments own page..."What happens if the referendum passes?
After the referendum, there will be a process with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, the Parliament and the broader public to settle the Voice design.
Legislation to establish the Voice will then go through standard parliamentary processes to ensure adequate scrutiny by elected representatives in both houses of Parliament."
Just remember this is the same government that promised cheaper electricity, nurses 24/7 in nursing homes,  wages growth, housing relief among others to get into power...
If it looks like shit, smells like shit, well think you know what it might be. This is a big smokescreen to divert voters away from all the other blatant lies spun to get them into power.

Where is all this insanity going to end up? Ten , fifteen yrs ago you would have been laughed out of the pub if you told people that these things were going to happen to Australia in the future, yet here we are with them enshrined in law. Is it the Labor party, the Greens or minority groups behind all this flawed policy? The promises are getting more outrageous to get into power and the decisions when in power are difficult to believe. Not so sure about the island anymore i am probably going to be forced to "pay the rent" https://paytherent.net.au/

I have to admit to being a bit biased in all things political, my first wife pissed off with a Liberal politician, the same year they were all making a fuss about The Year of the Family.
