Hi guys. Looking to buy a speedo tach combo for the Rocker. Found a HD unit secondhand for sale. Question is are they "locked" to the previous bike and therefore become useless on any other bike, or can they be transferred over?

Hey, what colour is ya roka? To answer your question they are not locked to a bike persay but some of them had the ability to change the odometer to the same as your original one one time only at install, other than that she good to go bro.

    Thanks Grease Monkey.
Like most of em my Rocker is Black. Recently put pipes on and a K&N filter in stock air box to choke it down a bit until I can get a tune in it. So not riding it much. Finding a suitable tuner to handle future planned mods seems to be a bit of a nightmare. What is everyone running?
That's good news on the tach unit tho. Otherwise its a pretty expensive paperweight! I might contact Harley and see if they can work out how to transfer the Km over as old mate doesn't have the install dongle that plugs into the ECU. As much as I would love it to be a simple plug and play I'm not a hundred percent sure it will back date itself to a bike eight years older by simply plugging it into the dash alone.

I have a combination speedo/tacho unit ready to go in my 09 Fatbob.
There are a couple of youtube videos and I have the instructions, but they all relate to a new unit, so you still have the mileage question you need answered and I doubt the Dealer would give you the answer because their experience would be hooking up new units and they would prefer to sell you one.
What is the difference between your mileage and the ks on the unit ?

I put a new one of those Speedo/Revcounter units into a 2008 Softail Custom in 2012.

I did not use the supplied harness connector that came with the new unit.

Started the bike and rode it around the block and suddenly 0 K's became 66,000 !

That was the "genuine K's" as recorded in the ECM , so no real dramas.

The original OEM speedo that came out of that bike subsequently went into more than one used US imports to get Complianced and pits passed for a K's speedo.

Each bike had 66,000 K's of course haha...

Doesn't really answer your question of course, but "suggests" that the unit will work with the K's that are the highest I predict.

    Thanks for the replies boys.
Fitting it was more to be able to monitor rpms for cam research. I've come from many years on Sportsbikes and just got used to having a tach I guess. Rockers did come with an rpm counter in the mileage readout display, but not until the last of em in 2011. Mine is an '08. I've just lusted after the HD 4" speedo/tach since I bought the bike 6 years ago. This one was a few hundred cheaper than new and a trick bit of gear to have. I rang Harley and asked 2 techs, but of course they said they weren't transferable and I'd need a new one at $650. Yeah, nah. Pity, cause it'd fit into the Sporty as well. I'm getting a test ride on a '09 Fatbob with the S&S 583 cams this weekend. Those cams are on my shortlist so I'll give it a run and see if I like em in the 96".

    Hi R
Can I ask please  ( with out offending the Rocker models )
With you coming from riding sports bikes, were you disappointed in the handling of the Rocker especially when coming in a bit to hot on corners.

OMG.., My mate thinks the sun shines out of their exhausts as well.  We pretty much have opposite tastes in chopper styles, which works really well.

    Hey Blood.
Let's just say it was "real different" handling wise to a sport bike. Rockers are one of the most uncomfortable Harley's to ride stock. Apparently. Raked out front, wide set forward controls, bugger all lean angle and that big fatty on the back tends to want to stand you straight back up in the corners so you really have to pick your line and muscle it over and through. A sportbike being 100kg lighter with a higher centre of gravity are easier to tip in to a corner. Which makes em more twitchy. Harleys track solid. Love or hate the Rocker, it was my first Harley. So I've learnt to live with it. I went up to a 100 on the front, 260 on the rear and put on some nice pipes. Just hunting for a Danny Grey Speed Cradle seat to make it a bit more comfortable. Running the base Rocker seat on it (without the trick seat underneath), so it sits you a bit lower in the bike and closes a bit the seat to rear fender gap that everyone hates. Then cams and it'll be just how I want it.

Yeah I noticed. Looks good. I'd go with a Weekday Solo, but I'm a little short in the leg department so the Speed Craddle is more suitable as it has a bit more bolstering support at the back to comfortably lock you a little more forward in the bike to help with hip steer. Every inch counts right!
