Hi all, have the old 07 fatty that I’ve stage 2 already and thinking maybe stage 3. Do you think boring to 107 and doing some head work is really worth it. Cheers

hi mate it depends if you are happy spending the money, personally I think it's worth it, have a look at the attached dyno charts from Fuelmoto there are big bore 107's included-https://university.fuelmotousa.com/dyno-charts/ this should help you to find the right cam for where you want the power eg- low down torque or rev the needle to the redline power/hp

If your pipes are Big Radius , you will waste your money trying to get a good 107 to work.  If you are married to the pipes, then build a combo which is sound and make about 100hp at the tyre.

Hey Lushy, no the old girl has had a few upgrades since the photo. Rinehart 2 into 1 S&S cams, intake oil plate & pump. Goes well just thinking of a bit more… of course! 🤙🏻

Sounds like you understand the deal, as they say, no replacement for displacement, good heads helps along with the tune.

How much comp do you expect to run with that 18° close on the 583's?

Hey Hoodeng, not sure mate what’s your recommendation and thoughts on this, would prefer to only do things once of course. 🍻

They’re recommending bore the standard cylinders to 107 and do some head work while doing the decomps. Other than that I haven’t discussed much as I don’t know a lot about it.

Loose rule of thumb with comp on TC’s is   35° inlet close 8.5-9:1 comp .   40° 9-9.5:1.   45° 9.5-10:1.  50° 10-10.5:1. 55° 10.5-10.8:1 comp.  Inlet close after 45-50° gets more fussy as the piston is now traveling vertically faster for given degrees of crankshaft rotation.
The bigger a motor gets the smaller the cam looks to it. As in a S&S 625 in a 95-107" with 10.8:1 works great, a 625 in a 120-124" with 10.8:1 is a bit small, a 640 is a better match.

There are a lot of cams that use really short timing, early inlet closes [like18°], etc. Ping masters on 40°+ days. If you keep cranking comp around the 180-190psi on a TC you will have a happy motor.

When we see what looks to be quirky timing figures like short inlet timing combined with long exhaust timing the cam is trying to fill a niche usage, like a restrictive exhaust and a rider that hasn't worked out what that box is full of under/over the oil tank.

I was told the S&S 583 would be a good mix for when the 107 works were done… would you disagree or what comp would you suggest with these cams. 🍻

Just plugging some of these knows in the a compression calculator, those cams on a 107 setup will have your compression pretty bloody high....  on stock flat tops with stock size HG you'll be at 211+ CCP

You need to rethink this setup, or work with someone who can guide you holistically (obviously whoever your buying the parts from and who's doing the work)

Also it is important to keep in mind who you are.
Whatever you do there will be people who can ride much faster than you on lesser bikes.

I have just fixed a job for a customer, which was done with a 107 kitted bike, 10.5 comp and these 583 cams. It had partially seized and was running like shyte. WAAY too much cylinder pressure. It was an unpleasant experience for both the owner and myself, costly as well.  As others have suggested the early  ( super early) inlet close figure means this cam is ok for  what you have now ie: getting good low end in a stock low comp 96 cube motor. I would respectfully suggest that whomever told you to use those cams in a 107 is not where you should be getting your next job done.
