TTS tuner wanted

    Hi all,

I purchased my bike (2012 Harley Davidson XL1200N) second hand and recently discovered it has been tuned previously with a TTS tuner. I do not have the tuner and unfortunately the previous owner has been unhelpful. There is an old TTS calibration locked to the bike's ECU which is apparently only removable with a TTS tuner (any TTS tuner).

Does anyone out there happen to have a TTS tuner I can borrow (just to use as an interface to remove the calibration on my bike - I won't wreck your tuner), or an old one laying around I could purchase for cheap? A new one is $$$ and I have a new Screamin' Eagle Pro Tuner ready to use.

    Cheers

    Tess

    Not really how it works.
The original cal is saved to the interface when it is first flashed with a new calibration.
The original calibration is then available to reflash to the bike to return it to its original state to allow access by any other tuner or the Dealer Digitech.
There are unlock calibrations available from the TTS website for those who don't have the original file.
You will need this when you do find someone to hook up to the bike with a TTS tuner.

Thanks! That's essentially what I had planned (I think). If I can get a TTS tuner I can follow the emergency unlock procedure using TTS software, remove the calibration, and then reflash to stock. Then I can tune using my SE tuner. Yeah?

where in Australia are you ?

This very "problem" is why I moved away from TTS as a tuning tool quite a few years ago.

As mentioned already you have to download an "unlock" calibration from the TTS website and flash it into your bikes ECM.

It's a fucking palaver and quite Greifsome actually. You send them a download from your bike first and a cal pings back to you..

Hey Tess once you have the unlock cal in the ecm you can flash in the tune from the SE cal bank you are going to use, no need to get it reflashed to original, it's made out to be such a mess but if people weren't assholes it wouldn't be a problem, I have a blue dongle you could try with but I'm away until the 23rd, hope someone can help you out.

I'm in Melbourne :) I think I've contacted about every tuning shop in Victoria - no one uses them, and probably for good reason!

Whoa amazing! I'll see how I go in the meantime, but there's a good chance I'll still be trying by the 23rd 😅 Cheers!

Nah, we have moved on from that Flintstones tech to ThunderMaxs and even points systems in rare cases...

Sorry can't help you in Melbourne. I have had to do this a coupla times for bikes here in Perth WA. Locked to a TTS tune. Back in the time when used US imports were flooding into Australia , their TTS dongle long gone...

As a matter of interest how did your situation come about ? How do you know it has a TTS tune in there ?

Are you sure your SEPST you are about to use is not already locked/married to another bike?
I have seen that way more times than I have seen bikes "locked" to TTS actually !
For what it's worth I really liked the TTS system for many years , but no Perth shops were keen on it.

Being "an asshole" about it is perhaps a bit strong. It is a fucking pain in the arse to HAVE to do it.

I reckon the arsehole reference was to bikeowners who sell the bike without the dongle.
Most don't think about the need of owners down the track wanting to alter the tune, and can't be bothered looking for it.
To be fair, this maybe also apply to guys who don't know any better and don't understand the consequences.
There are also some who think they can make a few hundred dollars extra and sell the dongle later. These owners are big arseholes.
Currently involved with sourcing two SEPST tuners for bikes sold without dongles, but the problem originated with previous owners to the seller.

I got a SEPST tuner from a friend and found a guy in QLD who unmarries them. When I plug it in, it'll read everything on the bike and can even record data, but it won't tune/change anything. If you try to tune it says "Reflash Aborted" straight away.

Then I saw there's a Cal ID that comes up - TFM-something. Turns out that's an old TTS calibration.

That wasn't directed at you brother, rather the people that don't pass the dongle on with the bike.
Sorry you took it that way.

I've not had to unlock one before so I have to ask, Tess are you sure that a dongle locked to another ECM can put an unlock calibration into your ECM?
  • Retroman

Yes a "married" TTS dongle can be used to reflash a "TTS locked" ECM as you only use the "Reinstall Factory" original MTE file.

I no longer have TTS software a working laptop so can't remember the exact wording but it's thereabouts.

You send some files to TTS website and an unlock MTE file bounces back to you. You then put that in your TTS software and flash it into the bike. I have done it several times but all quite a few years back now.

As I have said it's a fucking pain but in some cases it has to be done.

PS Gotcha GM with the Asshole thing haha...Sooo many US imports arrived in Oz without the tuning dongle it was mental !
