Sena SRL2 pairing with BoomBox GTS on a 2022 Ultra Limited

Hi all,
After a significant amount of reading and frustrating experimentation, I have come to the conclusion that in 2023 on a 2022 Ultra Limited with the latest BoomBox firmware installed I still can't use my Sena SRL2 headset with the Harley BoomBox!
It appears that when Harley released the WHIM back in 2017 to address the issue of needing to always physically plug into the bike using the propriety Harley headsets it came with, restricting your conversations to your pillion and not being able to chat to other riders that they did a deal with Sena so that the WHIM only worked "well" with Harley Branded Sena 20S or the Harley Branded Boom Audio N02 Helmet.
So even if I get a WHIM installed on a 2022 Ultra (which is a disgrace in itself) then I will still be forced to buy the N02 Helmet or replace my SRL2 with the 20S!
So that is an additional $1676 ($1070 N02 + $606 WHIM) investment and a waste of ~$2k (Shoe GT-Air2 + SRL2) for something that should already work straight off the factory floor to be able to use the BoomBox Wirelessly and chat to other riders?
Am I right? I really hope someone can say "no JM" you are wrong and this is how you get your ~$2k Helmet + Sena SRL2 intercom working wirelessly with the 2022 Ultra Limited BoomBox GTS.
If I am right, I hope this post helps other riders upgrading to a Tourer with a BoomBox avoid the mistake I seem to have made.

Gday JM, when I bought my 2020 Ultra Limited it came with 2 sets of the standard plug in HD headsets just the same as my previous Ultras. I did inquire about the whim and Sena set ups but I'm a tight arse and just use the standard sets. I think the only thing I can't do is speak to other riders. (years ago a lot of us around here had the old 27mhz CBs fitted and they worked well. HD fitted that CB radio as standard to the Ultras back then, but not now , everyone commented on how clear mine was.) With our plug ins my wife and I have, we enjoy very clear intercom between ourselves. I paired my mobile into the radio and can answer and dial any of the numbers on my phone plus get text messages .............. again perfectly clear all the time and it just lives in my top pocket or plugged in if it needs charging. As far as music goes I have a thumb drive (with 1200 songs on it, we love our music ) permanently plugged into the USB thingie in the R/H side of the batwing.
A couple of years ago our friends bought a new Sena and I tried to pair or blue tooth (whatever it is) my Boom Box to their Sena. No luck there.
I had to buy a new helmet recently cause my old one was 15 + years old and was worn out. I spent up big ($1200 abot 10 times what my old head is worth !) for a Shoei flip front and it has spaces for the Sena and a battery built in to the helmet.

JM, I toyed with idea of getting the whim for my sgs when it came out but like you are finding out, if you use any wireless headsets that aren't HD branded you will only get music in mono, not stereo.
In the end, I got cardo packtalk bold units and have been happy with them. I mainly Bluetooth music from my phone using spotify now. A lot of the newer Bluetooth headsets have mesh technology where you can make groups to talk to other people apart from your passenger. Mine has it, but I've never used it so can't comment on how good it is. If your riding group use similar headsets this might be a work around for you.
Good luck

Hey guys I have a 2023 Ultra Limited with the WHIM installed and have successfully paired a Cardo Freecom 2X to the boombox and also have a Quadlock wireless carplay installed. I use the bikes speakers for music usually spotify from carplay and only use the Cardo for SIRI commands and turn by turn navigation commands. I am waiting on 2 new helmets and then I'll install both Cardo units in for the wife and I and will test rider to passenger comms and let you know if that works. I am not concerned with Mono music via the headsets as I'll continue to use the bikes speakers.

Thank you everyone for your replies, sharing your experience and confirming that I am right after all (that is disappointing).
However after a bit of experimentation, I did have some intermittent success with AndriodAuto on the BoomBox GTS momentarily sending all audio, including calls, to my Sena. The technique I used was to delete my phone from the BoomBox GST, turn off Bluetooth on the BoomBoxGTS, turn off Bluetooth on my phone, plug in my phone to the BoomBoxGTS (using USB), and wait for AndriodAuto to load and it worked. But only for the first test phone call (I was able to answer the call and talk through my helmet headset). After I hung up and attempted to repeat the process it reverted back to sending the audio through the bikes speaker system.
I did a bit more digging and it seems that AndriodAuto is programmed to ignore any external speaker/mic system and use the vehicles, but it took a couple of mins for it to kick in and re-route from my headset back to the bike.
I am wondering if AppleCar Play does the same thing for iPhones? I haven't tested that yet.
But if there was a way to "hack" AndriodAuto to force it to pipe audio through to an external headset we could just use that linked with our smartphones to get the same or better functionality out of the BoomBoxGTS.
I will continue to explore this avenue as the alternative that we are forced to tolerate is less than ideal in 2023.

Not giving up on this haha and found this thread by Ryan Urlacher on his Law Abiding Biker channel, has anyone tried this trick on the latest version M23.22.27.00, with CarPlay or AndriodAuto?
"When the Boom Box GTS was first announced for 2019 and newer Harley touring models you needed the above items in place [WHIM & HD Branded Sena] to get Apple Car Play to activate. With software updates Harley has recently put out, you can get Apple Car Play to work with a simple trick I found. You don’t need the Harley headsets or the WHIM, but you do need to take your Harley to a dealership so they can plug it into their proprietary Digital Technician II software and check a box to tell your Boom Box that you have a WHIM, even if you don’t. By doing this, it activates Apple Car Play on the Harley Boom Box GTS and you can then begin using it. Don’t forget to go into your Harley Boom Box GTS setting and turn on “projection” mode, so it mirrors your iPhone. And remember that your iPhone has to be plugged directly into the Boom Box USB interface to activate Apple Car Play. It does not work if your iPhone is paired to the Boom Box GTS via Bluetooth. ... Remember that if you flash your Harley Boom Box for the WHIM, you won’t have to go back to a dealership in the future if you ad the WHIM for wireless Bluetooth headset pairing with your Harley Boom Box GTS. This trick is working with Harley Boom Box GTS software Version MY19.19.03.00. This could change in the future with software updates, so always save each software update version, so you can always revert ..."

Hey JM,
My testing on 2023 Ultra limited with WHIM installed by dealer and my phone not paired to the boombox
Wired headset plugged in / iPhone connected via cable = No carplay
Cardo Freecom2x paired to Boombox / iPhone connected via cable = carplay works, music plays to either headset or bike speakers, can make and receive calls in carplay, use Siri to send messages/ WAZE turn by turn navigation prompts via Headset
Cardo Freecom2x Paired to Boombox / Quadlock Wireless Carplay adapter connected to USB plug / iPhone connected to Quadlock via bluetooth = carplay works, music plays to either headset or bike speakers, can make and receive calls in carplay, use Siri to send messages, WAZE turn by turn navigation prompts via Headset
Bonus I can open my garage also with Hey Siri command or homekit button on boombox while carplay active
My understanding from Law Abiding Biker was you needed to plug in the little plug adapter to trick the boombox into thinking you have a headset for carplay/android auto to work
