Swing Arm Pivot Bolt

    Hey boys and girls,

Quick question for those that actually know: Is there a trick to getting the swing arm pin out from a '95 Sporty?
I have undone the socket head bolt on the left hand side and the pin comes almost half way out then jams - I suspect it is corrosion on the pin not allowing to pass through the bearing, as I am figuring this is the first time some fool (me) has tried to extract it in 27 odd years. I had this same problem on my '04 (different set up, but corrosion on the bolts).
Has anyone come across this issue before, and more importantly, how did you solve it?

    Cheers, Will

Hi Will, I've replaced the swingarm bearings and bush on my 90 Sporty several times. The 90 frame is generally the same as the 95.
The best solution is to pull it apart and grease the bearings more frequently, and while it's apart, put some antisieze along the length of the pin. Try driving the pin out with a brass drift, worked for me the first time I pulled it apart.

Thanks Obisteve, I was considering a slide hammer from the right hand side as the hole in the left side where the socket head bolt comes out from is pretty small - it would have to be a thin brass drift - but I was not sure what I would damage by using brute force.

    Cheers, Will

Ignore that last post Steve; I discovered that I could extract the pivot spacer out of the left side allowing room for a drift and have now got the pin out:

Another day, another problem. As Harley (Peter Stevens Adelaide) informs me the swing arm bush I need is obsolete, so if anyone knows where I can obtain a bush 47083-81A I'd be much obliged, or do I see a machine shop in my near future?

    Cheers, Will

Fkn things take up shitloades of room, and plenty of mates have one.

I have a mate at Upper Yarraman with one, but if you're daytripping to Mingela pub it's probably a bit too far. He makes these.

I'm no frame expert but they appear to be very well made 👍

Yeah, they're beautifully made out of chrome-molly steel, fitted with an aluminium swing arm. They're HL500 replicas for Yam thumpers. He has a queue of people wanting them, many are sold internationally. But he spent an hour making spacers to fit a Progressive shock into one of my Vic's. He also took time out to TIG weld a neighbouring old dears 90 years old wooden handled eggbeaters back together, got paid with a fruitcake.
I've done some rough measurements, a Sportster motor won't fit.
