Hi SlimJim, I just edited my post a couple of minutes ago, not sure if you've seen the edit.
I'm not a M8 expert, just a very long term Evo Sporty owner whose mates all ride Evos, so not gunna recommend a particular pump. Just point out some obvious stuff.
1) If the moco have made a better pump this early in the M8s production life, it's because they recognised problems and it was costing them in warranty fixes.
2) S&S don't make bad parts and are quick to react in the market
3) modern regulations force very lean mixtures on manufacturers, and are increasingly shutting down the ability of the aftermarket to compensate for this.
4) this means very hot running air cooled motors, which is exactly what synthetic oils help cope with.
I hope the hd 8 lobe pump helps solve the issues for them.
If you're going to 117, I'm sure you'll be adjusting the AFRs as well, so it will run cooler but you will be spending big bucks, synthetic oil is pretty cheap insurance.

Oils ain't oils when you cook a stir fry using 90 weight gear oil.
Or when you you put olive oil in your gearbox.
And you defitely don't wanna stir-fry with oil squeezed from castor oil beans like the old Castrol R.
It lubricates well but the fumes alone can give you bad diarrhrea. WW1 pilots with an open cockpit sitting behind a castor oil spewing rotary motor suffered badly.
