Hi.  I bought a 2019 bike that only came with one fob. Do I have to go through my dealership to get a second fob? Or is there an easier / cheaper way?
    Cheers.

I was of the opinion that all new HD motorcycles sold in the Australian market came with 2 fobs from new, both "coded" uniquely to one bike. And only 2 fobs could be coded to one bike at any one time so getting a "3rd spare" was not possible.

That was certainly the case up to 2015 when a good mate bought a 2015 Fatbob new. Came with 2 fobs

Last new bike I bought personally was a 2013 CVO Breakout and it had 2 fobs

I have since been corrected on this forum that now bikes are delivered with only one fob, and you HAVE to be "au fait" with the override pin thru the speedo readings. If you don't you are FUCKED out on the road. I don't know the model/year group when that shit started somebody else will chime in.

In the "olden days" ie pre one fob only from new, to get a replacement fob the HD dealer needed your bike, and the current working fob for the bike, and connection to the Deutsch connector port (the "tuning port" if you like) for a period of time to allow comms to establish connectivity new fob/old fob to the ECM. A bit of a process, I have watched it done at the Perth HD dealer for a US import bike I had that only came with one fob (by fuck didn't they all!). The tech connected it all up and ran some programme on the dealer Digitech laptop. I was then of the impression that ONLY an HD dealer could do such a "remarry" process. Also at this point they can delete and change the override pin code to something the rider chooses. Watch yer fungen memory haha..

That may have changed now with Indy shops having Scanalyser type tools available to them.

Stories of losing fobs out on the roads? I have some real LULU's so best avoided like the plague !!

Point of note, hardly any of the used US imports that were flooding into Oz for many years had any fobs as no factory security as stock OEM. Only the CVO models in the US came factory fitted with security. All other models it was optional and paid for.

Thanks Retroman, three bike was second hand at the dealer and sold as is, with only one fob.
I'll give them a call and see what's involved in getting a spare one.
    Cheers

Longtime member on here, Fikmik has some for sale on Facebook. HARLEY PARTS & SALES AUSTRALIA  Dec 25th
I assume they can still do two fobs to a bike and are just too tight to provide the second.
If you are close enough to catch up with him, he can assign the fob, otherwise you wait till the next trip to the Dealer.

Late update. When I had that new fob coded to my used US import CVO Springer, it cost $100 at the time, and that would be 10 years ago.

The dealers in Perth were loath to work on "imports" at the times so I had to deal with the workshop direct without letting them sight the bike until it went into the workshop. I just phoned the workshop desk and asked for a "new fob for a Softail". I did not mention 2008 CVO Springer!  The techie did not even look at the VIN and whammo straight thru'.

Cost now would be somewhere well upwind of that $100 from 10 years ago!
I reckon in Perth WA today it is still only HD dealers who "can do".
