Hey all you Road Glide guys, I'm looking at a Road glide special (or possibly a Road King special) to make those  4 hour +  rides a bit more comfortable. I'm getting old and need some sort of wind protection.

In hot summer weather (35* ++) does the RG fairing allow cool air to pass over / around the fairing to keep you cool? Or are you pretty much blocked from the wind and don't get any breeze?

I live in WA and the riding season gets pretty hot. I've never owned a bike with a fairing or big screen. Thanks for any input.
    Cheers

Hey mate, I ride a Streetglide but same deal really. If it's that hot, you're not gonna get cool air going over you, you want to block that air off.
Try a ventilated textile jacket, or even a hydro vest under your jacket. Keep your face covered and drinks heaps of water.

Hey Adam i have a Street Glide and as Doc mentioned you dont get cold air but you certainly get the ambient air on you. I have air deflectors that i can redirect the air at the base of the fairing and they help heaps. I ride with a vented jacket and the only time you feel the heat is either at the lights or stop start city rides. Where i live ave summer temps 28-30 with the odd 30+ degrees.

@Adam 76, I'm in WA , lower speakers on the bikes cut some wind also, screen height can be a factor. Not a big issue, try and test.
Middle of summer WA , pick your day and time if for a pre planned ride. Riding attire to suit you, don't become a 'fashion victim' .
Good luck with what ever decision you make, happy trails.

I’m happy riding in hot weather, I live on the edge of the desert, and hot is an under statement, I thought the rowdy was great, I do have a 12” screen

Bloke I'm old and err impervious to many forms of endurance, not a hard arse just old, bee, tortured, and well not that clever or I would not have endured said circumstances. Now, where were we
I have from new a 2012 Road Glide, which I do love. My little lady, many years ago was not happy with my setup, after Fatboy positions, emm. Anyway purchased a higher screen re-  Kuryakin , and she happy as shit man. Big difference... HUGE diference 4 or 6 inches makes brother.............

Hey Adam, have you considered buying a pair of wind proof underpants?
That should stop the wind from blowing up your fanny.

Gidday Adam76 ... just a little bit off topic ... 2017 RG Special owner here ... depending on budget have a look at the Fan assisted oil cooler at front of motor and also the heat extraction Fan that goes behind rear cylinder.

I`m in Sth East Qld and our Summers can get pretty muggy and anything that can assist with cooling the engine oil is always a bonus plus the Heat extraction fan at rear of motor comes in real handy if you are cruising in stop start traffic.

Mine are both Harley products and i find them to work fine ... but check aftermarket as well ... some are better some are not.

In regard to RG Special or Road King Special ... if i had my time over it would be the Road King Special for me ... Love my bike but have only used the Navigation once in 5 years and remember there is approximately an extra 35 to 40 Kg`s in that fairing and it`s all top heavy.

I come from a 42-year riding background and only the last 5 years with a fairing so have never understood the whole fairing/screen debate ... mine doesn't even have a screen bar the tiny sports one that doesn't even go above the fairing ... that`s the beauty about bikes and especially Harley`s ... everyone has different taste.

Whatever you get i hope you enjoy.

Thanks TJU, really appreciate your honest and helpful response. I think I'm also leaning toward the Road King for it's lighter weight and being able to run with no windscreen / fairing on those Really Hot days in the saddle.

    Cheers mate.
