Apparently you can figure it out with a wooden bbq skewer, it's not scientific by any means but should work.
Pull your plugs, drop the skewer into a pot, lift the back wheel, put it in top gear and roll the engine over using the back wheel until a piston is at bottom dead centre.
Push the skewer to the far side of the piston away from the plug hole, mark the skewer where it hits the upper edge of the spark plug hole, measure the skewer, 1200 should be around 5 7/8", 883 around 5 1/2".
As for cams the only way is pull the cover and see what's stamped on the ends of them, if it turns out to be a cammed 1200 it probably needs a good tune, pipes you have won't help it a lot but won't kill it either.

Does it have to be a HD genuine skewer...as the Chinese skewer is a metric measurement....

Chinese chop stick would be fine as long as you measure with dual scale tape lol

It could be the kit which adds capacity to 1200 but uses the 883 heads. They do not add a lot of power, and the exhaust is costing you probably 3-5 hp even on an unworked motor.
