Hey guys just gained possession of an 81 wide glide. New to the historic bike seen and looking for a club. I noticed alot of the ones on the rta site dont specify bike or car and im not sure if they have a preference so rather than phone up a bunch im putting it out here. Looking for someone to shed some light on this.

Clubs and rego are all state and territory based so you need to share your location if wanting meaningful input

If it’s vic you’ll need a roadworthy, club inspection and potentially a vicroads inspection. You’ll also need proof of club ownership.

You may also run into the problem I have with the last 3 vehicles I’ve put on club reg, vicroads have not digitised all of their old rego info so some older vehicles are not in their records, that opens up a really fun can of worms which can require VASS inspections as well.

It’s not as easy as it used to be, I was going to buy an 81 shovel head, vicroads had no history on it, the roadworthy folks required it to have adr approved exhaust (don’t exist), it was going to have to go and be VASS certified. It was a complete nightmare, walked away from it in the end.

Hey Mr. Mow 'It is not easy as it used to be, ' just took me to being a young teenager, and finally got a hand on it..
Seriously correct man, everything is very difficult to cross, and just get into the rule books, being an acredited body, is worth gazillions these days, even if the 'Body' knows fuckall on inspected/approved/blessed with holey water, they have the fucken creds.
Sidetrack the MM. Sorry. Govenmutt  is pissing me off.

I just moved my 86 FXR over to club plates last year and it was pretty damn easy tbh.  Getting the old girl to RWC standard was the challange as the open exhaust did not cut it the first time around...lol.  And who would have though that little things like indicators etc where needed ffs.

Hey mate, it can be painless if know of the accredited mechanic's, it can be a breeze. But on the other hand can be a journey and a hard time. Main thing Advice as you guys know, but green riders,  do ya homework sort out ya shit, and find a human being that inspects and  Road Worthy Bloke.

Agree....  I went a place that did my tyres and RWC at the same time (Pablos in Melbourne).  Really good to deal with...  They did my tyres and a look over of the bike with a list of issues so that i could fix them and then return for the proper RWC.
