Well after 1000 beers and much debate looks like we are headed to Steep point WA. The intention is to also do the most Eastern point, Southern Point then Western point and then returning via the Lambert centre. The intention is to try to do as much on the dirt as possible...the planning starts...

    lucky lucky bastard

Sadly it took the loss of my best mate to make me realize that all the things we would talk about on a bucket list arent going to happen if we simply keep talking about it. I carry something of his with me everytime i ride. Sadly it his anniversary on the 8th of this month......a fair few long and slow Gentleman Jacks that day.

LOL thanks Stropp. At this very early stage we aren't planning on going thru Perth. We want to do as much dirt as we can without killing ourselves stuck in the desert. Depending how we plan things then we will do the great central rd from Alice and come out just north of Geraldton...just early stages still.

Well no Steep Point this year....my riding buddy did a excellent job of smashing his ankle last night. Surgery in the next few days after the swelling goes down then around 3 or 4 mths recovery and rehab. Not a motorcycle in sight or even alcohol involved , just misjudged some stairs and that's all she wrote. Bugger!

Not good news, I know what I'd be doing. Give the old mate some Bex Powders and a get-well cards with picks of the trip.

Ha Ha sadly for both of us its a trip that is better attempted with two people as we were headed out quiet remotely in some sections. We also needed the two bikes to carry the crap we need including the extra fuel etc. Never mind it will happen but not this year now.

Life is funny isnt it, we have both parked adventure bikes in the bushes or in a muddy puddle with only a ego broken. A simple mis step and multiple fractures. Hes currently enjoying a painkiller drip waiting for surgery.

Bad luck mate, they'll still be there next year. Just make sure you are.
Stairs can be a killer, I'd much rather drop a bike on a muddy or gravelly track where unless you hit a tree or go over a steep bank while still on the bike you're generally OK. Mind you, I'm not going too quick on those sort of tracks because my 3 dirt bikes are the same 3 that are my road bikes, 250 kgs up to 367 kgs.
Stairs though, got picked up and thrown down a flight of stairs about 40 years ago by this big Maori bloke I was having a blue with on the balcony of a block of flats. Not too much damage, broke ribs, hit head hard on concrete somewhere on the way down, had already broken fingers and dislocated a knuckle earlier in the discussion, but knew I was pretty lucky. The big bloke came rushing down to follow up but rolled several toes under on the first step and came rolling down. Luckily I got out of the way, he ended up lying next to me about as bashed around as me but with broken toes, best not have a blue in bare feet. We just looked at each other and started laughing, after a few minutes went back up and got stuck into the Bundy. I bloody hurt in the morning.

Hope he has a speedy recovery, the older we get the slower we mend, sadly. Should be a few more Kms of black top done by next year.
