Hi ppl, new guy here. Needed some insight on purchasing a bike from QLD to NSW and getting it roadworthy and the rest. Just needed to know, does the current owner not having bought it registered effect me getting a blue slip here in nsw.

Hey mate, welcome to the forum. If old mate bought it with no rego, then whoever sold it to them wouldn’t of needed to get a safety certificate to sell it either. Essentially you’re buying a bike with no rego and hasn’t had a safety inspection or certificate for a fair while. Do your due diligence on the bike is my best advice. As for NSW rego laws, I’m not up to speed so can’t help there. Keep us updated.

Also make sure its not on a stat write off that's been repaired as you cant get them re regoed.

i remember many moons ago getting a mate to look at a 4wd fs down in Perth whilst we lived in Broome - he even organised RAC evaluation for us etc - all good, so we bought it & transported up....turned out the biggest POS on wheels iv ever owned & ended up having complete rebuild motor in a garage when it shat itself on trip down to Perth just 3 months later....anyways ol mate felt so bad about approving such a lemon for us & me feeling like a bit of a cnt for asking in first place - iv never asked that again of a mate...

As others have said, check for if a stat write off,  check each state, not just Qld as i dont think all states are linked with this.

In today's world it's even comforting to actually sight the bike/ car with so many internet scams where vehicles advertised don't exist.

Simple process if you have all the correct paperwork. Will need to get a Blue Slip

By the reading of it it seems you don't need it previously registered to get a Blue slip (see below - But I would check with the RTA just in case.

    Acceptable proof of entitlement
You must provide one of the following. There must be no alterations.

    Proof of purchase
An original letter, bill of sale, receipt or tax invoice that includes:
    seller’s name, address and signature
buyer’s name, address and signature (not required for small trailers bought from retail outlets)
    date the vehicle was sold
selling price or market value of the vehicle (whichever is higher)
    vehicle registration and VIN/Chassis numbers.
