an 82 year old mate of mine has a 2002 Deuce he has had from new. VERY low K's , 22,000

Average 1000 per year, he travels a lot. Oil rig man when he was working away, and a caravanner now round Oz.

His Deuce shows no oil on the dipstick after a few months of standing. One time he topped it off close to FULL on the stick.

Fires it up , pumps oil out the filler plug all over the bike and garage floor. Lesson learned.

He now checks it hot a half hour after a run , NOT when it has been idle for donkeys.

No "trouble" since. He lays it up with the hot oil level correct.

Stock oil pump empties the crankcase back into the oil tank with no apparent ill effects.

    Thanks Retroman.
As mentioned, I’ll crank her up and catch the overflow.
    Cheers

It’s been sitting for a few months so thought I’d fire up the old sporty.  Bugger, the battery was dead flat.

While it was out I checked the oil and yikes, the tank was empty.  I guess the oil has drained into the crank case.  Good thing it didn’t fire up.  More work to do 🤷🏼‍♂️

Lovely looking early 70s Sporty Ratbob. 1000?
The right side shifter brings back some memories
The answer is easy, ride it a bit more,
Sometimes putting a thin brass drift in and gently hitting the check valve ball onto its seat is enough to reseat it enough to slow down the drain down a lot.

That was the issue i had as the bike was not black....the prefered painter for local HD  did a pretty good attempt but it just wasn't quiet right. Anyway the bike was bought to tour on  and not polish to death so that's how it stayed.

the one major drawback with Harley colors is the matching!  if only they used a local or popular paint brand instead.

Yes and were talking 2012 when i had it sprayed , paint tech has moved forward from those days with colour matching.
