I had a short ride on mine, can only manage short ones for now but it put a fucking great grin on my face, down to the harbour, out to Gentle Annie and home, glad I got decent suspension, some pothole trickery about.

My plan to go for a run up the coast didn't happen.  I changed the oil and fitted the saddlebags and noticed the front tyre has seen better days, nothing to worry about but its supposed to rain tomorrow so I headed down to my local bloke but he can't do it until tomorrow.
Normally I would have been pissed off but because I am a retired old fart I will just reschedule the trip for the weekend or next week.
I can honestly say that this retirement thing is the duck's nuts. If anybody is thinking about retiring, stop thinking about it and just do it. It's fuckin magic !

Sitting having a beer and just noticed there is flat spots on the left hand side of the tyre.
Don't know if you can see it in the pic but it sticks out like dogs balls when you're looking at it.

Scolloping, not much you can do about that tyre, keep an eye on pressures and wear it out, it happens, a few things can set it off.

It's 90 % worn anyway. My thinking is if it rains on the way back down the coast and I've put another 1000ks on the tyre things could get pretty fuckin slippery. If I was staying local it wouldn't have bothered me.
I don't mind being adventurous but I hate riding a bike when you have no faith in the rubber that is keeping you upright.

Another update on my trip up the coast !
I told my mate who lives up there what I was doing and he said that he was catching the train down to Sydney and then going to Bathurst to visit the relos. So he is commandeering the bike for a week or so and riding the bike back up the coast for me. I've got a removal truck coming in a couple of weeks and I don't have to worry about fitting the bike in so it's a win win situation.

My younger brother calls the lawn bowls green "the undertakers holding paddock", I have no idea if it's a common saying or not but it made me laugh when he said it.

I might be moving closer to Queensland but I won't be crossing the border!
I bought myself a new set of golf clubs and I will be looking for a new boat when I get settled in. Between the bike, the golf, the boat and building a new shed I think the lawn bowlers should be safe for a while.

Mate, lawn bowlers are never safe when on the green. It's an extreme sport judging by the death rate.

It’s been sitting for a few months so thought I’d fire up the old sporty.  Bugger, the battery was dead flat.
While it was out I checked the oil and yikes, the tank was empty.  I guess the oil has drained into the crank case.  Good thing it didn’t fire up.  More work to do 🤷🏼‍♂️

Why do you say that Ratbob?
If my bike sits for a week the oil tank is usually empty but I fire it up anyway.

Same, the fatboy if not ridden for a bit, the oil drains out of the tank. Fire it up all is sweet. I'd also like to know Ratbob, what is the problem firing it up?

    Hi guys
Nothing drastic other than oil spewing out the breather and me not noticing til there was a right mess.
There’s also the potential of creating of too much pressure on the already failing seals. As you can see in the pic, she’s already leaky but I’m gonna try a SAE40 mono, hopefully it’ll at least drip slower.
Guess I need to service the oil pump valve too.
I was thinking about draining the oil from the sump but I read one recommendation not to touch that plug as they’re easily stripped ??
    Any tips would be welcome.
    Cheers

I read that about that plug, wonder if it's ever been out, might be just in with thread tape as sealant if it has, I have read that others have tapped it a bit larger with a taper thread once stripped but reading and doing can be world's apart, can you clean up the ball seat? Could get a new ball and spring easy enough but I have never done one so I'm wondering how you go about it.
No real help sorry, just thoughts.

an 82 year old mate of mine has a 2002 Deuce he has had from new. VERY low K's , 22,000

Average 1000 per year, he travels a lot. Oil rig man when he was working away, and a caravanner now round Oz.

His Deuce shows no oil on the dipstick after a few months of standing. One time he topped it off close to FULL on the stick.

Fires it up , pumps oil out the filler plug all over the bike and garage floor. Lesson learned.

He now checks it hot a half hour after a run , NOT when it has been idle for donkeys.

No "trouble" since. He lays it up with the hot oil level correct.

Stock oil pump empties the crankcase back into the oil tank with no apparent ill effects.

Your thoughts are a help.  You’ve confirmed my thoughts so I’m going to leave that plug alone and put a tube on the breather and catch the oil.  I hate cleaning up. Cheers

As mentioned, I’ll crank her up and catch the overflow.
