Ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure as they say, yep they would patch what they had to and hope it gets past warranty, vibration and runout would be covered under " they all do that and it's within spec"

Compensator nearly $1000nz just for the part, I did 30 000k's on my previous stage2 LRS without a problem, I know my new bike has more power, I rang 3 dealers in NZ they all said it's not necessary?

    Two points:
    1. Harley don't sell an upgraded part, so nothing in it for them to admit it's an issue and  recommend a fix.

    2. Every single time I've mentioned known issues to dealerships in conversation, they either pretend like they've NEVER heard of it happening, or that it is something exceedingly rare and the fault of the user.

You'll likely be fine, I purely changed it for peice of mind, exactly the same as the cast manifold to replace the plastic one. I had just read story after story on fb of people who's had blown up and the circumstances, so it was tweaking my mind😂. I know it's statistically small though, dozens of stories vs how many bikes sold?

    Mine was 650ish? Aud.

I've been busy at work and haven't had the bike out for at least a month so I thought I  should check the battery with a multi meter.
The battery is only a couple of years old and its never been on a charger .
12.6 volts but I thought I should plug in the trickle charger anyway.
I am now sitting enjoying a refreshing beverage contemplating my stupidity.

Got back from hols and got stuck into the bar swap on the Low Rider ST. Pretty straight forward, bit tight on RHS/TBW internal bar wiring, but other then that, nil issues. Phone mount left to install then put it all back together.

Look's good John, I actually sat on a LRS at the dealers with 9.5" risers (thrashing supplies) and it felt close to perfect to me but very pricey with the speedo bracket and wire and cable extensions, while I was there I ordered for my forward controls a black shift rod(part number 33600318) lever and black shift rod(33600259) why this doesn't come with the original kit I don't know, the third pic is how the f/controls come

    Quoting John.R on 01 Jun 2023 02:05 AM

Yeah its not a cheap endeavour, risers, bars, grips, throttle tube, cable extensions, clutch extension, upper brake cable.

These are 8.5in riser with a bout a 3.75in bar height.

I'll post a photo of the trick phone mount when fitted that clamps to the risers and can put phone above or below dash.

I'm thinking I might go with these Performance Machine ones (with bars included) which are around the same price as the Thrashing Supplies 9 1/2" riser alone- https://rolliesspeedshop.com/shop/handlebars-controls/handlebars-risers-h-d/handlebars-1-1-4-black-handlebars-risers-h-d/performance-machine-1-1-4in-phatbar-handlebar-and-riser-se

As luck would have it the P/M riser and bar combo wont work with my speedo (this bar mounted speedo makes thing a little difficult when doing a handlebar upgrade the LRST seems a lot easier, the old tank mounted gauges ever better), according to P/M they are coming sometime in the future, I've decided to go the Thrashing Supplies route with their low bend bar along with 9.5" pull back risers and the speedo housing and mount, Yes mr tussuck they are very pricey(around $2k) but the bike will be close to where I want it

I reckon you're still stuck in 80's/90's, both with paintjobs and the value of the dollar/inflation hahaha. Wait till you see what shops are charging for installation.

Id beleive it! I did mine myself the other week, pretty straight forward without any real speciality tools needed, just a bit time consuming going through every element.
Tank off, frame rubber plug out and disconnected, bars off, risers off, internal wiring of bars, clutch line change, brake line change, bleeding etc.

Strange you say thats as it was the early 90's when I last took anything into a shop to do - I just kept finding VAST amounts of incompetency so started doing things in my shed with a service manual as my bible .  I have done my own work in the shed for as long as I can remember - the only work I send out is cylinder honing etc. as that's a job for special tooling.

Good on ya tussuck. There's nothing worse than paying good money for a shit job.
A couple of years ago I had a problem with the 20 year old Victa lawnmower, it wouldn't start when it was hot. I thought it would have been a fuel issue so I pulled it apart and dropped a tiny o ring in the grass and couldn't find it. I was busy at work and thought fuck it , I will pay someone to do it. I googled local lawnmower mechanics and phoned the nearest one (back yard mechanic) . He told me to drop it off and he would sort it. I picked it up a week later and he told me it was all good. I went home and started cutting the grass and stopped the mower and the fucking thing wouldnt start. I phoned up old mate and told him and he told me to bring it back and he would sort it.
This happened four fuckin times, my back was sore picking the mower up and putting it in the car. I ended up telling him he was a useless cunt and I would take it to the local mower shop. I took it down there and explained in detail what the issue was. He said he would fix it but they were busy so come back next week. I picked it up 10 days later and took it home to cut the grass. Guess what?
The fucker wouldn't start when hot. I was ready to smash the thing to bits with the sledgehammer.
I was telling a bloke at work about it and he said "the coil is fucked" .  To cut a long story short, he gave me a second hand coil and told me how to fit it.  I now make a point of stopping the mower every time I've got to empty the catcher and it starts like a champion.
Why would a dirty arsed truck driver know what was wrong  without even looking at it when the two  "lawnmower mechanics" couldnt fix it?

Because the next step up from a parts fitter is the pull apart and put back together fella that can't "see" anything wrong therefore it's good, what you need is a diagnostic type, they rock.

Not strange, educated guess based on your posts, and spot on haha.

I generally do all my own work (which is how/why I have as many Harley's as I have) but still aware of what's going on in the economy and labour rates.

I agree 100% though, IF I pay for a service I want it to be good and for someone that can do it faster/better/higher quality then I can do it myself. Sadly not too many people or shops fall into that category. Fucked if I'm paying top dollar for something I can do myself.

On a similar note, you ever looked up the retail price of your FXR in today's dollars? Interesting comparison.

I've actually seen and heard of a lot of horror stories of people doing their own fittings of bars, my close up vision is not great these days(still good for riding) hence I'm a little reluctant to do any bigger jobs which personally I class fitting bars and risers as a big job involving cable and wiring extensions etc, I also lose my cool fast and wreck shit lol

I've decided to go with some pull-back T-Bars similar to these (not the same Brand though) but custom made- https://www.hammerdown.co.nz/page/tee-bars/3/8/

Was a beautiful 26 degree day so grabbed my mate and rode the bikes trying to destroy the tyres before getting a new set of boots for the trip away. Did a decent loop near Obi Steves old place.
