Took the Sporty out for the day for the first time after putting the 3 extra plates in the clutch and sealing up the air leak in the intake. Headed up the valley on the dirt. No more clutch slip, which is what I was hoping for. Clutch hookup was a bit more sudden, a feet up U turn I did on the dirt got a bit messy, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. All pretty much what I expected from removing the spring plate from the middle of the clutch pack. Sealing up the air leak seemed to get rid of the slight pinging on mid range acceleration.
Enjoyed rattling round on it, getting used to it again. Called in on a mate for a beer and a yarn, sitting out in his shed. Only did about 180 km, but had a great time.
On this one you really know that you are riding a motorcycle.

Finally got the motivation to throw the Evo FXR on the lift to diagnose the issue that has garaged it for the last 1.5years.

Issue is it wasn't shift past 3rd... would do 1, Neutral, 2, but going into 3rd encountered resistance and it wouldn't get there.

Pulled trans cover, shift drum, and was having a look around. One of the shift forks wasn't sliding on the shaft smoothly. Turns out it was binding and not letting the selector push it all the way to third.

Pulled it out (with difficulty), turns out it's nearly imperceptible bent. Was enough to bind it. Stole a shaft from a parts gearbox I had and ita back in business.

oil changes in all 3 spots, oil filter and whilst there noticed front brake pads very low.
Got some DP sintered pads from AMX and took it for a nice ride to bed them in plus to my surprise no more buzz from the front rotor :).
OEM pads always had a bit of a buzz on the front rotor however I noticed it getting louder as the pads were wearing down. The DP's are silent

Its probably a good thing that the seat is nice and soft and comfy.
Kiwis are like that.   Let us know what its like next week after you put on the sheepskin  cover.

Gave it a tub , put my little handbag on , noticed the rear tyre appears to be running out of tread - how long should / could an oem Dunlop last ?

Close to the centre tread wear indicator rest is at approx 3 mm
10,000 km - but coarse chip country roads if that matters

I’m fat and ride like a middle aged nun hahahahahahahaa
( god does not punish with a stick )

Sometimes I am amazed by how far some cunts push their tyres to the limit.
First scenario was in 2010 on a show day run here in Tassie. Hobart show day is a public holiday and on this overnighter there were about 30 odd bikes. The bloke in question was on a CVO something or other tourer with his missus on the back. We stayed the night at a pub in Burnie and in the morning noticed his big tourer was already well and truly worn down to the canvas on the back tyre.
Hobart is a long way from burnie, 324 ks.
His missus was shitting bricks about the ride home..,.,.but the tyre held out and they made it home.
Scenario 2, Weekend before last went on another overnighter up to near Bridport in the NE tip of Tassie.
Mate-oh was gunner take his Ducati Multistrada but the heap of shit would not start.
In desperation he dragged his souped up loud as fuck Harley Deuce out of the shed. It had 2 flat tyres from sitting for so long but still had a rusty trickle charger attached to it. It started first press of the button and we pumped the perished looking half bald tyres up and he was good to go.
Next morning up at some swanky silly golf course where we stayed the night you could see the canvas unraveling and getting ready to just let go and give up.
The Deuce/Multistrada guy was pretty fuckin  concerned about his tyre and his prospects of a happy ending.
I told him the story of the bagger guy in Bunie and don't think he believed me.
His bike actually made it back to Richardsons in Launceston who happened to have a new one to fit it on a Satrurday but he reckoned he was shitting himself all the way there

    Thats got me thinking FC
I used to own a 5 meter boat that would sit on the concrete carport for months on end.
I always checked the pressure in the tyres before we headed off  but every time we got half way to wherever we were going  we ended up with a flat tyre. The tyres  had at least 90% left on them but they exploded anyway.
When I was an apprentice I noticed the tyres on my car were getting a bit baldy but I couldnt afford buy new ones so I kept driving on them until a big blister appeared from out the side of the tyre.
It was different back in they days
