Ride around the Scenic Rim with a really good mate on his Vstrom 650, lunch at the Dugandan Hotel and then a well earned hydraulic sandwich at the Rathdowney pub before the boring bit to Beaudesert after a 33 degree day. Fuck it was hot.

About to jump on the bike...going to Lacey Creek via Dayboro. Will hit the dirt at the back of Beerwah and hopefully stay out of all the lunatic 4x4 crowds way. Thats the plan.

Hope it didn't rain......seen what happens when it's a bit damp in the dirt....

Cheers Hilly...had a few spots in the morning that helped with the dust. I don't need the rain to fall off in the dirt..LOL

Haha, touch wood I've managed to stay upright for a few years now, I really don't need any repeat lessons in pain an suffering, doesn't make me a better rider, just hurts more lol.

Took the battery out of the Sportster, put it in the Husqvarna, then rode around on the Husky for a few hours.

Yeah, never have to put the battery on a charger, one of them always needs a run.

The clutch slip on the Sporty didn't improve over 800 km. I had been hoping that it was partly due to contamination with the engine oil that drained into the chain case during its years of sitting leaning over on the stand and that fresh oil rated OK for wet clutches would help. Didn't happen.
So time to do something I've been thinking about for a few years, replacing the spring plate in the clutch pack with another friction plate and 2 extra steel plates.  It's a recommended modification in the Sportsterpedia and removes the potential catastrophe of the copper rivets in the spring plate shearing.
I already had the parts from when I put in Barnett friction plates and I dunno whose steels in 2000.
Now I'm a bit of a bushie tightarse and the gearbox oil only had 800 km on it so instead of draining the oil I leant the bike over and did it that way.
Buttoned it back up, was gonna try a test ride but found that the rubber cap I put on the vacuum nipple in the manifold for the VOES line that I fitted when I regressed to points ignition in 2010 had perished and split. That could be causing the slight pinging I've been having.
Pretty sure I've got a bag of spares, just have to find them, or might just fill the hole with epoxy. Today's job.

I feel like a dumbarse, the vacuum fitting is on the back of the carb, not the manifold. I couldn't find the vacuum caps, so took a galvanised clout,  cut the shaft down to about 10mm, lightly filed the shaft down until it was a tight fit in the vacuum fitting, coated it with metal filled epoxy and lightly tapped it into the vacuum fitting. Sealed!
The rivets in the spring plate were slightly loose, but I don't think it was about to explode. Replacing it will increase the friction area though, so worth doing.

Picked up a Dyna that wasn't running, and hasn't been for many years. Diagnosed the issue, did some preliminary checks, and got it fired up. Sounds very healthy. Just have to flush and do brake fluid and it'll get ready for a rego check, then I can start modifying.

How many years since it ran John ?
My computer diagnosis is telling me there was no petrol in the tank.

Depends on the story, 5 to 10 years . There was fuel in the tank, it just smelt rank.

Those 2 are French bulldogs. Vet reckons their weights OK, they are both pretty stumpy.

Put in a new brake/tail light globe. That really challenged the tool using skills, think I'll spend $100 on a flash LED one so I never have to do it again. Should I post a pic of this operation?

Installed a Denali Soundbomb (the split one) on my 2021 Low Rider S today behind my Road Warrior fairing - heaps of room if you are looking to do it. Zip tied the horn component to the existing standard fairing bracket and used an L bracket to secure the compressor to the triple trees via the bottom mount of the existing fairing bracket - all super secure.

The horn is extremely loud (100% happy with it) - scared myself when I tested it - no more beep beep road runner !!!

Took the Sporty out for the day for the first time after putting the 3 extra plates in the clutch and sealing up the air leak in the intake. Headed up the valley on the dirt. No more clutch slip, which is what I was hoping for. Clutch hookup was a bit more sudden, a feet up U turn I did on the dirt got a bit messy, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. All pretty much what I expected from removing the spring plate from the middle of the clutch pack. Sealing up the air leak seemed to get rid of the slight pinging on mid range acceleration.
Enjoyed rattling round on it, getting used to it again. Called in on a mate for a beer and a yarn, sitting out in his shed. Only did about 180 km, but had a great time.
On this one you really know that you are riding a motorcycle.

Finally got the motivation to throw the Evo FXR on the lift to diagnose the issue that has garaged it for the last 1.5years.

Issue is it wasn't shift past 3rd... would do 1, Neutral, 2, but going into 3rd encountered resistance and it wouldn't get there.

Pulled trans cover, shift drum, and was having a look around. One of the shift forks wasn't sliding on the shaft smoothly. Turns out it was binding and not letting the selector push it all the way to third.

Pulled it out (with difficulty), turns out it's nearly imperceptible bent. Was enough to bind it. Stole a shaft from a parts gearbox I had and ita back in business.
