HELP - Lost FOB and no idea on PIN.

    Hey Crew,

    I bought my sportster (2015) second hand recently and only got one FOB.
    I was recently riding to work and my keys fell out of my pocket - I only realized when I shut the bike off.
    unfortunately my owners manual is blank on the page that should tell me the PIN.

    so i have a bike that won't start.
    I have reached out to the previous owner who has no idea of the PIN and has not been able to trace the previous owner.
    I traced the bike to the original dealership to see if they could search the PIN for me but they were less than helpful..

    Has anyone been in my situation before?
    does anyone have any advice?

    Luckily the bike is safe and out of the weather in Sydney.

    please help.

    Have you tried a default PIN.  I seem to recall it's: 111111

    I've tried suggested 13131. 31313. and the last 5 digits of my VIN.

    I'm reading up on how many attempts i can get wrong before things go bad!.

    The owners book first, know its a copout but, steer you in the direction.Reset
    It will be 6 numbers.
    Don't think it'll go up in smoke after too many go's but may have to have a beer break every 3 or so..

    I think you'll need the help of a Harley dealer anyway, as you don't have any remaining fobs.  They should be able to give you a replacement fob.  I don't know for sure, but you may not even need to take the bike to them.  They may be able to program it based on your VIN.  Once the bike is unlocked you can then reset your PIN.

    My 2016 SG has only 5 digits, attached pic from owner manual as a suggestion, with the gaps between the numbers, may help ? Good luck.

    Thanks Keith, unfortunately that page of my owners manual was left blank by the dealer!!
    I have reached out to Harley Heaven Melbourne (original dealer) to see if they can advise what it was at the time, but they have been so unhelpful.

    Ring around to every dealer and Indy who you can trailer the bike to that might help. May mean you have to disconnect the battery to stop alarm screaming. Also ring cop stations in case keys have been handed in.

    "I found a local independent H-D shop who has a diagnostic machine that can read the PIN code inside the module. They got the bike running using the old PIN code they got from their machine, got me two new H-D fobs (from the same dealership I mentioned above), synced the fobs to my bike, reset the PIN code and put the number on my receipt so I could change it later, and did it for under $220 including the two fobs."

    The bike has to be physically at the dealer workshop to have a new fob coded to the bike. I have seen it done.

    They use their dealer hand held "Digitech" ( aka laptop) to do it. Only 2 fobs can be allocated to a bike at any one time.

    It's a "learning process" between the bike's ECM and TSSM the dealer laptop and the fob. Takes quite a few minutes.

    Has this happened before now ? Well shit yeah , that's life. Always ends up with the bike at an HD workshop.

    Or that of and Indy who can do that ( I don't know of any in WA who can !)

    Best of luck , it could happen to any of us.

    I must say Retro, when I saw the initial question of how to start your bike without a P.I.N or your key fob it looked like a potential tutorial on how to steal any Harley! The links seemed to be how to find out your PIN with your fob or how to start your bike without your fob using your PIN.I was all ears for the magic bypass without the assistance of the dealership that with a simple internet search would leave all our bikes at the risk of being nabbed.-Not a waste of time because I went outside and  accessed my PIN and noted it down just in case the Fob battery dies. 
    ps the original post wasn't a "speedy" post was it??

    I'm unsure what a 'speedy is'... 

    I assure you, no ill intention here just covering of all bases and looking for advice on previous incidents. 
    I was just checking to see if this had happened to anyone before and if there was a solution (locksmith recommendation perhaps) that could fix the issue. I've had an Auto locksmith out who left frustrated that he couldn't overcome the issue.


    Looks like i will inevitably have to take it to the dealership. the fun part is that it is in basement parking in the cbd...3 levels down with minimal clearance.

    Any recommendations for a tow?

    It shouldn’t be this complicated red. 
    It’s just a breakdown. 
    Contact every dealer / Indy until you find one that can help
    Out of those dealers find ones that have a tow van / trailer for moving bikes around. A winch would be nice. 
    Negotiate a price. Perhaps include a service to make it worth their while 
    Get bike collected by them, taken wherever and fixed. 
    I just don’t think a locksmith will be able to do it. every criminal thief would be contacting their locksmith “mate” otherwise

    Then, I smugly tried the number I had in my documentation with a copy on my phone and it was wrong!!
    Using the fob, I went through the display procedure to see what it was. 
    I Checked it and hurrah, the bike started. 
    I implore you all to check your pin / key numbers, record them, mail / text / pm to self / better half in case you get stuck like poor old rh!  Have a couple practice runs cause if you make a mistake keying in the code, the alarm will go off and you get to look like a goose.

    Yes, please all, do this.

    there is nothing more heartbreaking than hitting the right indicator to confirm the number and then having to hang your head in shame and look around nervously as people judge you for trying to steal your own bike.

    Jokes on you! My 22 model doesn't even have an audible alarm, the indicators just flash haha.

    Do they have PINs on say and 09 Sporty?  I googled all the instructions and they seem only for baggers.
