Anyone have a lathe?

Hi,
I need some straight length risers made out of 1" round mild steel. I will be welding one end to my custom bars and the other end will mount to the existing top fork tree so will need an internal thread cut for about 3"(does that make sense?)
2 x 8" long should give me enough to play with.
Can anyone help or know of someone that can help at a reasonable rate?
Located in Melbourne but happy to pay postage etc.

I can have a crack at it at home, but for this job I only really have a drill press and the taps but concerned about getting the tap lined up straight as I do not have a good history on this front.

Hi all!
Tussuck check on “good ol’google”;
“Handlebar riser bungs 1/2inch X 13 threaded “ you’ll find a few bike builders sites offering those for 1inch bars,a good idea for anyone else that might be interested in making one off bars.

I am assuming if you are doing the welding yourself that you are a boilermaker tussuck ?
Probably best you leave the precision engineering stuff to somebody else then , I know what youse are like !
I have access to a lathe but I am up in NSW. ( gods country )
If you dont know anybody local with a lathe and more importantly the drill bits, you can send them up here but I dont come cheap.

Just a quick one and only my opinion on this one..I’ve just realised you want to use 1 inch round mild steel ,not tubing... I think you might find a few problems along the way because of the material you want to use.
The weight of 2 X 8” (roughly a little more than 2 X 20cms)of mild round steel is a little more than 1.6 kg for the pair and that’s without the weight of your handlebar, the control etc..To compare the same size rods (2X 8”) with a 6061 Aluminium grade{one of the best structural alloy available} it will only weight 560 grammes.
Also at this height (8 inches or 20 cms) you will find out that your bike will become top heavy in the handling . The thickness of the straight risers will make it very stiff and won’t dissipate vibrations as it should and you will feel the aftermath after a few hours of riding.
The other problem you will have using this set up is the need to change,or remove completely the handlebars riser bushing(silent blocks) from the triple trees as they will become useless and wobbly but by trying to solve one problem you will create another one,and you might compromise safety...
So the solution would be to use 1”(25.4cm) tubing(ERW or if you can find it.. Seemless.. that’s even better) for the length you want it shouldn’t cost that much, what you have to make sure is that the wall thickness is NO LESS than 2mm! You probably could take your handlebar to your local steel merchant to see if they can match the tubes with what they have..

The bars are 1" Steel Tubing so lightweight.
My challenge is how to mount the damn things to the top triple tree as there is no flat section at all on them.
Im looking at 2" long solid steel risers welded to the bars and bolted to trees (Its a sporty so solid mount to the triple tree)
Option B is to use some round clamps like a dog-bone style to clamp them instead of a weld.

Have a look at MDB's first UK VLOG where he rides that home made hard tail. It had bars like that. I think he thought he was taking his life in his hands.

WOW!!!that’s radical!! LOL!!! Surely it must be a trike!!!
Tussuck Here’s a couple of ideas to maybe help solve your “little” problem..
For those ideas the material I would choose would be buying a meter or so of 1” tubing or If you don’t have a tube bender handy(if you want to have bends that is) you could buy a second hand 1” Handlebar “buckhorn or Ape hanger style” Don’t pay big $$ for it and it doesn’t matter if it’s not in top notch condition as this will become the”donor parts” .The bends are already there to suit your project, cutting to length and shape to what you think looks best and also as a bonus, the”donor” handlebar already has knurling at the clamping area so you won’t have to worry about that as well..
The sketch is for how i would tackle the situation...
found this pic on the web for more ideas...
