I'm no fan of Harley dealerships here.  I won't use them unless I've got no other choice.  I identified with this video.

have dealt with Geelong HD over a few years and have great service and support, only over the counter stuff though,so not all HD dealerships are out to fleece people...maybe i have been lucky. bought some gear from Peter stevens when i first got the bike,no dramas there either.others may have had different experiences though.

Just a curiosity question guys .. unless i missed something why is it an over reaction to be pissed off when a dealership has some bullshit policy that says they wont change a tyre unless they can do both .. is that not an over the top rip off .

Like i said i may have missed something but strange that some have said this guy is over reacting .

    Just curious guys .

If you only need one tyre, you only buy one tyre. Which dealer. Suburb??

Its yank land so in theory they should have just shot the sod trying to rip them off; but guess they were 'nice' bike riders.

From my perspective its a over reaction when you go to the extent of producing a you tube video because you disagree with what a dealer tells you. The dealer is considered the expert in any potential litigation that may result due to what they may consider a worn  or a mismatched tyre. They are required to perform "best practice"on every occasion and if that means telling you two tyres and you disagree, thank them and go elsewhere.

I don't understand the logic behind the single tyre policy but as one commentators has said, why go to the trouble of making a YT video over it. They have Harley dealers and tyre suppliers on every corner.
It was interesting how he goes on to say how dodgy his front spoked wheel was (not spokes again!) and how he had got that replaced at the helpful shop and the old tyre fitted.
Never been offered tasty pastries at any dealer I've gone to OC, even when I bought a bike, but there's usually a cafe near by.

I've always been treated well in not only my regular HD outlet, but every HD store I've visited in NSW. One experience I had recently at a non HD outlet I thought I would go to as it was close to my home and I have seen it mentioned on this site. The experience, which wasn't a big deal so I didn't make a you tube clip on it, was just a month ago. I bought and paid for a front tyre for my fatboy. It wasn't in stock so I had to wait for stock arrival. Signs up in the store, free fitting when you bought a tyre. This was confirmed by the guy who ordered the tyre for me. Went to pay for the tyre and there is another $100 added to the invoice. Young guy say's fitting is extra. I got that sorted no worries. Free fitting.
Get the call later in the week and am told the tyre is in. Pissing down rain so I take only the wheel to them. I discuss with the girl the direction of the wheel, and she, in front of me tells the tyre fitter "make sure you watch which way the tyre comes off and put the new one on the same direction". They said to wait so I waited. Hour later I have my wheel. Take it to the car and when there check. It's the wrong direction. I take it back in and tell them it's the wrong direction. The girl apologises etc, "no big deal" I say. Back into the workshop it goes. I'm talking with the sales guy and showed him a picture on my phone I took of when I took it off, a picture I took to remind me when re assembling it. I'm in my sixties and do forget things. The girl comes out from the back and say's to me, "the guy's in the workshop say it is the right direction". Now the sales guy pipes up and said "no, it was the wrong way, he has shown me a picture". I get the wheel back after 30 minutes and now it is right. I take it home and install it.
I wondered if that mistake was made, even after speaking about correct direction, what could I have expected if they actually removed and replaced the wheel on my bike?
I did get a text the next day asking "how was you experience with us at _____________, please let us know". Didn't reply. I didn't have any positive comment, so I said nothing.
I would not have mentioned here except for the this thread. Next time it will be back to my regular HD outlet.

The moral of this story is that you can't treat customers like fools anymore.  Requiring that a customer buy two tyres when they only need one is a scam.  I go through rear tyres at the rate of two to one, compared to front tyres.  I've had too many bad experiences like this at local dealers.  I won't say just Harley dealers because it's not only them.  These clowns operate like it's the 70's still, where they could treat customers like shit and get away with it.  These days word spreads.

the dealer is the last place I'd buy my tires from as they are always at a premium. I've never had a problem with my local dealer they give great honest service (at a cost though)

I was out for a run this arvo  for the first time in a couple months and decided I should check the pressure in the tyres.
Front was 29 PSI   Back was 28 psi .
I blew them back up to 40 psi and it was a noticeably harder ride home.
