96ci to 103ci

Back again with a new set of questions, since I've fixed my "fouling plugs" questions.
I have a 2011 Softail standard 96ci with se259 cams, springs and heavier clutch spring.
To me the cams are only useful up high, would dropping some 103 pistons and jugs make it pull more down lower?
Which leads to my next question, I'm good on tools and handy around cars, but is it a easy job to swap jugs and pistonor best to let a shop handle it?
Also, the jugs I'm looking at are black and mine is standard alloy colour, can the black ones be painted and actually look good and last with the heat these Harleys produce?

I put the 103 jugs on my 96 when I had the stage 4 upgrade. The jugs that were available to me at the time were also black and I had the shop paint em the standard silver colour and bake em in an oven. They have lasted pretty well.

Those cams need a bit of compression to be good down low, 10.5 is a common set up, you could put a set of cams in it more suited to the 96", just chucking it in there, if you have a manual and are handy with the tools they are just nuts n bolts.

Been chatting to a few guys, I'm now thinking of getting higher compression pistons and going 107ci to suit this cam.

I had my 88 built to a 103 when I done a cam bearing, amazing performance, still going strong
