OK, I'm sure this will give some people a laugh, but I'm a bit of a tight arse old hillbilly. Besides, I'm retired and have 3 bikes and a pack of dogs to support. 1990 1200 Sporty I bought new, now running points, I've heard some old car points slide straight onto the backing plate and work well. Have heard that Rambler ones do, and old Chevy 250ci sixes as well, but they're only to be found under the back end of rocking horses so does anyone know if 60s Holden ones do?  Or do I have to spend $25 at Repco to check? I know I can pick up Blue Streak ones sold for Harley's for $50 online, but if someone knows of any car crossover parts I would appreciate hearing it. Have not had any luck with Google.

Don't know how you'd go on that particular bike, but in the past I've put Holden points in WLA'S and Ural's (yeah I know). The only difficult bit it getting the timing right. On the Ural it was a piece of cake, timing light & TDC.
    On a Sporty?
    Good luck!

Thanks Pedro, on the strength of that I'll spend the $25 at Ripco and see. Timings not an issue, been running points in it since it cooked the ignition pick up in 2010, and had lots of practice in my misspent youth with BSAs, AJS and a dozen years on Norton's. Got the clear acrylic timing hole plug to let me use a strobe, but also have a little spring loaded tool to lock the Vulcan Engineering centrifugal advance into full advance with the timing marks lined up, radio next to the bike tuned off station, and carefully rotate the points backing plate until the radio clicks as the points just start to open.
Got slightly weaker springs in the centrifugal advance so it runs a faster advance curve and depending on good fuel availability sometimes run +5° advance. Was mostly asking to find out if they are a tight enough fit on the pivot post, not really a big problem if not, got a mate set up to turn me up little bronze bushes to take up slack if necessary.
Well he ought to be able to, he makes alloy racing frames for classic MX Yammy 500s.

OK, now able to answer my own question  so may as well pass it on.
Bosch GD501 contact breaker points fit in Shovels  and Evo big twins and Sporties owned by Luddites who have retro fitted points ignitions. They were originally for Rambler 6s. Chevy and Holden 6s apparently take Bosch GD502 points. Dunno what the difference is, might have to buy one of each and check.
