I got stung a few months ago when I bought two Amal carbys for the BSA's I'm restoring. The carby's cost me a bit over $1000 plus postage. In the end I had to fork out another $300 for the import duty/gst just to get the carbys, which pissed me off no end. Unfortunately I was unaware of the tax at the time.

I know alot of members on this forum import parts for their bikes and wondered if anyone knows of a way around paying the tax if you order more than $1000 of parts. Could you ask the seller to list the parts at under $1000 on the paperwork even if they exceed that amount? or is just not worth the risk?

    Cheers

If you bring them in one at a time you wont get charged or just sell them and charge GST. This is an argument I have with our customers everyday why are we so much more expensive than a USA online store.

Bit hard to advocate for fraud, but there are few retailers over that that are sympathetic to our plight and can get packages through with no taxes. I got done for the first time in my life a couple of months ago (DHL and their processes), after buying tens of thousands of dollars worth of stuff, well over the "1k" limits.

I generally stick to the one guy that has hooked it up over the last couple of years as he can get basically anything and I dont get stung customs.
