Gent's, I am looking for a dash similar to this for my 81FXWG, let me know if you or any of your mates might have a complete dash they want to move on.

Seek and you’ll find gents, rocking horse shit exists. Takes awhile though.

You did well to get that Benno.
Did the seller know what year and model it was from?. This one is from my 84fxwg and it is slightly different. Surprised there were changes to the layout.

Gday FC, below is what the seller told me was correct for my 81 FXWG, my parts manual lists 3 different part numbers for the 80-84 models. One of the numbers my manual lists is what ole mate mentions below also.

Crazy thing is, I had been searching for the last 12 months, as per this old thread, its held up my build, I got the shits a couple of months back and bought a repo speedo, mounted it about a month ago, the speedo cover didn’t fit the 3.5 gallon tanks I had installed very well, so out come the dremel. Well I put a couple of marks on the speedo cover, so I sent it out to be repainted and then a good mate of mine put me on to this NOS speedo.
Genuine parts for these old things are rare as rockin horse shit, but my OCD’s aren’t. Decided not to hard tail it and build a FXWG Fireball.

From the speedo seller.

67004-80 is the correct speedometer for your bike. That is the number that comes up on parts finder. This speedometer i have would be correct as far as i can see. Harleys system can be confusing i think the number -68b ran till late 1980. Then the-80 came in. Im always prepared to be corrected with this stuff. Also harley just used whatever they had lying around you be surprised what i came across in my dealership even in later years.

Hey Benno, the main thing is you got a genuine HD speedo for it and it'd take a pretty sharp eyed pedant to query if it is the correct one of 5 variations of HD speedos from the pre evo FXWG.
I have the parts catalogue for those shovels and the guts is this,
67004-80 Speedo head 71&72 all models; 80-82FXE-80, 80to 84FXSB.
67005-68B Speedo head kilometers 71&72 all models;80&81 FXWG
67005-68C mile/kilometers 82&83 FXWG...............Most likely the one you have methinks.
The parts catalogue I have is a digital type one I have in documents. Pm me your email address and am happy to send it to you if I can work out how. It's a handy thing to have. Cheers FC

Well spotted GM/ Stu, your correct, Hercus 9 model A, my father in law is a retired fitter/ turner, he reckons its a late 50’s model.

Got an AH model from 1949 - H is hardened bed. Older than me by a dozen or so years :-) In good working condition - but not in the same condition as yours appearance wise. Does not have the belt guard either. Still in regular use - a real pleasure to use.

When you guys highlighted it (Hercus) lurking in the background, I had a flash back to my high school days of metal work classes. When teachers were old blokes who knew their stuff and were helpful and proud of the students who cut the cheese and succeeded.

Nice. On closer inspection, appearance is about the same as mine. In good nick - but well used.

I believe mine predates the belt guard. And you appear to have the original stand. I've got an eye out for both items, but they do not turn up too often. And like old bike parts, they can be expensive. And may not be in the best condition :-)

It needs some work Stu, it works pretty good, I am a novice, but lucky enough to have a father in law thats an ex manual arts teacher and a retired fitter / turner. He reckons the stand is original also, he knows the machine like the back of his hand.

You may already be aware of Australian Metalworking Hobbyist - they have all sorts of bits and pieces for these lathes. NOS, used, and aftermarket. The business has nothing to do with me - I have been a customer in the past is all.

Sounds like you're covered by your father in law, but the bloke who runs the website is an enthusiast and is a wealth of knowledge.
