1993 Ultra Electrical Issues

    G’day,

I went to go to work on my 93 Ultra today, turned it on and it started.

As I was backing it out of the shed all power shut off.  I pushed it back in and went to work.

Came home and turned the ignition on and it was fine. I started it and it did exactly the same thing.

I then started playing around and it would turn on and then lose power completely.  A few minutes later the power would come back on.

I assume it’s a relay somewhere but who knows which one and where it is.

I’ve looked at the wiring diagram and you need a PhD to understand it.

I thought I’d reach out and see if anyone has had a similar problem?

    Thanks
    Dave

    I found this
bike loss all electrical power (solved)
my bike is a 93 Ultra Classic, but this problem from what I have read affects many model's and years of bikes! as far as the loss of electrical power goes, When the weather is hot outside 85º - 90º and I am at a stop sign or red light my bike was losing all electrical power for 10-15 seconds or so, after a while of scratching my head. I discovered my main circuit breaker was opening up from the combination of outside heat and engine heat (30amp circuit breaker located under seat in front of battery on a thin wall of sheet metal, on the other side of sheet metal is my exhaust pipe) I moved the circuit breaker under my side cover (carburetor side) and no more circuit breaker tripping. hope this helps many!

Thanks for your reply but heat isn’t my issue.

It was mild this AM and the bike wasn’t warm when it first cut out.

It was warmer when I got home from work but the bike was in the garage and once again it didn’t run long enough to warm up.

Other times it turned on and off it wasn’t even running!

No worries. Possibly a dodgy earth wire / connection. Have you done anything with the battery lately.

No I haven’t but I’ll have a look at the earth strap tomorrow
