Fitting a usb port to softail standard FXST

Yeah the internet is full of guys that claim they can install one of these in 45 minutes.
Maybe if you've had practice and done a few all ready, or perhaps a trained harley tech.
But for the rest of us mortals, allow time, a couple of beers, there is not a lot of room inside that plastic box, and if you don't get the wires in the right place it won't close no matter how much you swear at it. But hey the result is bloody great.

These little fuse jumpers are a great idea when installing aux accessories. I think I just drilled a small hole in the plastic fuse case or folded the wire over the top. Got ‘em from Jaycar for chips. I run the usb charger (and poss the gps) for the deuce off this one. Used a stiff wire to feed power under the tank to the handlebars.

Nice great idea, blue fuse 15amp ? I thought a 5 amp would be plenty for ph or gps , hey I'm no tech so please correct me if I'm wrong ?

The real reason Steelo is using a 15amp fuse is because he also has both a humidifier to keep his cream buns fresh and a pie warmer for when he gets more than thirty minutes from a bakery.

It's not a humidifier W. It's a cooler. We have fresh cream in our buns in SA which does not appreciate hot weather. Heathen!! (and you live in the hills too)
And you are right, it is a 15A. I think I piggy back multiple individual power feeds from this one and they all have their own fuse (5A)

    Steelo,
just saw this and thought it would be a good way to do the bug out van, you could have it follow you around in case you break down anywhere.

I'd be better off installing a tow bar on that van and pulling the bike around.

Sorry oldnblind we seem to have deviated from your original post. I work in the auto industry and some of the fitting times we are given are totally unrealistic unless you have just fitted ten of the parts in a row. Better to do like you say and slow down make sure you have the job done correctly and if possible calm the nerves with a beer or two.

If it makes you feel any better I have just fitted spot/daytime running lights and a cigarette lighter outlet to the Pan America and it took me four nights to do at home after work, probably about 12 hours in total. Mostly because I am a fussy bastard and also because I was too cheap to pay the $1000 for the HD kit so I made up my own loom and mounts. Total cost including the lights just over $140. As a comparison I can fit a set of spotlights to most 4x4s in under two hours.
