Hi ya all you Technical guys,  for some reason my 2016 Solftail Slim S (100 Cu Screaming Eagle) no longer starts while it is in gear.  It will only start if in neutral.  This was never the case before, i.e. it would always start while in 1st or 2 nd gear.
Help ... any ideas?  I never selected anything to change that ??

That’s controlled by a switch inside of your handlebar switch housings. Check, reassemble and you should be right. Or it might need a replacement switch at worst

Thanks mate....I did not "change anything", so what would have caused that ?  Is there anything I can 'select" in terms of the controls, rather than opening the unit ?  I have zero technical / mechanical skills..... it just happened, one day it was "normal", the next time I rode her .... something just changed?

Hi Pat. Many complaints on many forums. (consider a Google search)
Seems problem is in the lh clutch switch housing.
My 03 softtail is happy to start in gear, 07 ultra neutral.
IMHO, parking in gear and forcing a neutral start is probably safer.
Some bikes wont even let you start if the kick stand is down

Yeah, but if you ride in heavy traffic, it is very handy to be able to start up quickly if one stalls.  To then have to fuck around and try and find neutral, just to start is a huge pain in the arsse.  My Forty Eight Sporty has that feature and I've always hated that !
Slim never did this before so it is very unusual and strange ??

Switches fail, not a big deal. Just replace.

Yep left hand switch pack will be fucked they tend to get water and corrode inside sometimes a bit of spray may work, this is an issue on the tourers anyway.
