starter pinion problem with 2008 fatbob

Having some issues with my young blokes 2008 fatbob.. I just replaced the starter clutch and refitted starter, primary cover oil etc
started it up and noticed a noise in the primary so shut it straight down.. Drained the primary opened her up and looks like the starter pinion isnt retracting quite far enough and its just barely touching the ring gear, I was thinking possibly the spring in the starter motor solenoid? Anyone dealt with this issue before?
Thanks in advance and Happy New Year Blokes..

When you first started bike after new starter clutch was installed,, was the sound on the primary side like a grinding metal to metal sound ??? ie,, something is fucking wrong here,, turn the bike off quickly ???
Did your new starter clutch come with the small ball bearing that goes down the starter clutch shaft in the package ??? If not, the new ball bearing was already installed down the shaft,, (hard to see for all the grease down there).....
This is were your problem may be.... Thinking the new starter clutch did not come with a ball bearing down the shaft,, you install the old ball bearing from the old starter clutch down the shaft.... Now you have two ball bearings down the shaft , (fucking big problem).
This will cause the starter clutch not to retracked back and continue making contact to flywheel...
