Mate, Look up what exactly PN 739A is... or what NPT is. While it might not be obvious to the naked eye because its a tiny and short thread, its tapered. If you want to get technical, the taper is just under 1.8 degrees...

If it wasn't tapered, that PN would be NPS, which is the straight and NOT tapered thread.

Why are you so adamant its not? Because you cant see it with your naked eye? Run a micrometer over a new plug and see?

    Nice .........real nice .

Ive only put this advice (and my time to assist people for the joy of assisting people) -
You can measure all you like with a Micrometer
as far as i am concerned ............. bloody hell

Who needs those fancy micrometer thing-amy-jigs anyway!

    Hey Beags,
Suspected Harley oil leaks are always best inspected when it's dark - much more comforting outcomes!

    Primary Oil Leak Update
Just had another look in the daylight and I am 90% sure its coming from the plug.
There is a shitload  of thread tape just hanging in the breeze .
Somebody mentioned that thread tape isnt the best in this situation. I agree.
Thanks for starting the thread Kato, you might have saved me a headfuck.
I will make that small job my big project over the weekend. I am not sure how long it might take so I will buy a couple of cartons to be safe.

Your head maybe is just too big.
Or, bike ground clearance too small - or perhaps a combination of both.
To identify the source of an oil leak,  invest in a couple of invaluable tools -  an adjustable focus, pivoting headlamp along with a mirror on a stick. Clean around area using CO Contact Cleaner. Open a beer, run bike up to a normal working temperature then inspect.
With this method the fading daylight,   head-size or bike ground-clearance cease to be an impedance in your ongoing diagnostic saga!
