    I remember the graffiti on the back of a dunny door at my former employer.
    One of the supervisors was not well regarded because there was a list in different biros and handwritings of

    I hate Ashton
    I hate Ashton

    Followed by
    I like Ashton! (which heartened and surprised me!)

    and
    So do I, when he's
    a. Sick
    b. Making a fool of himself
    c. Dead
    d. All of the above

    I think there's a lesson in that for all of us.

    Yes, Ashton could well have been a natural born cunt, there are many - they walk amongst us.
    But please consider that Ashton's fury probably increased daily after each visit to the cubicle - upon discovering yet another derogatory scrawl upon the back of the shit house door.

    Now that I think of it. The back of that dunny door was an an early version of a forum except you couldn’t delete your post. 

    Ran into Ashton the other month. Like the dead and stupid, had no idea of the idiot he had been and the low esteem held. He began fondly reminiscing of the old days as though he had been everyone’s friend and mentor. 
    I smiled and nodded while tasting the warm vomit of disgust in the back of my throat.

    I would have thought with your tact and charm you would have refreshed his jaded memory of his prior perceived status.....usually "Your fucking kidding" somewhere in the dialog brings memory to reality.

    Shouldn't the passage of time temper vitriol in all but extreme cases?
