Air Leak after installin Screamin’ Eagle Ventilator Air Cleaner Kit

    Hey everyone,

I installed the Screamin’ Eagle Ventilator Air Cleaner Kit on my 2019 Softail Low Rider. Tuned it using V&H FP3. The bike has uncontrollable revs during idle after the engine warms up. Called up V&H and they said that the induction module needs to be removed as there is an air leak. Removed that and reinstalled - same issue. Ran Auto tune as well after riding for about an hour or so, still same issue. V&H said it's not a tuning issue - its mechanical and that there is still an air leak.

Went back to stock cleaner & reporgamed FP3 with the stock base map. Seems fine now. Other than paying $290 for a 20 min job to install the cleaner to make sure there are no leaks or at least so that I can tell V&H that a pro did it - not sure what else to do.

Any ideas on what could be the issue - anyone else faced it.

What’s the part number for your ventilator air cleaner?

I seriously doubt that an air cleaner is going to have an air leak.  After all thats what they do for a living.

Reinstall the new unit and leave the tuning alone to see if the issue is there.  Its a process of elimination I suppose.

Agree. I was only asking as sometimes, particularly with the se ventilators, the (backing plate) set up is adaptable to different size throttle bodies

Thanks, will try. However if I leave the tuning alone wouldn’t the revs be really high anyway due to more air coming in?

I have a very similar air filter fitted to my Twin Cam. It was initially fitted after a stage 1 stock air filter kit upgrade. I fitted it straight on to the throttle body and no tune change. At idle there really shouldn't be any difference at all at the engine is just ticking over, minimum air flow. Only in the higher revs do they make a difference. The only thing is if there is an air flow meter very close by and somehow its interfering, but I would be surprised. Its a HD SE part normally just bolt straight on.

    Not being installed correctly

Finger tight head bolts, install backing plate, bolts finger tight and then tighten all up
