    Hi guys,

    HD newbie here.
I was advised by the dealer that I need a Maximus Tuning Key to set my new Sport Glide up for the Rinehart 2 into 2 and hi-flow air filter I’m having fitted.
Has anyone had any experience with the Maximus?
    Worth the money?

    Thanks in advance,
    Greg

I know nothing on the tuner but

the parts guy in the second dealer in Adelaide told me to just change my filter to a K&N filter instead of paying for a high breather case, unless I was after a particular look
can save a few dollars if you want

Both the Maximus and Power Vision keys work well on the 2019. Pricing is a little more for Maximus. They are a means of unlocking the computer so we can access various settings to tune the bike. My personal preference is Power Vision due to the better data logging on my dyno, but I use both. One has to purchase an unlock key, which is a one off for each bike, and then dyno time. Each brands provide a form of adjustment, so the bike will run as well as it is adjusted. Various "canned" maps are available, but personally I tune each bike. As you are keen to do some work at Heathcote or Whyalla Norrie drags, a tuner can remove the speed limiter and other safety things to improve the general performance.

I have just bought a Sport Glide 103 and it came with the black Harley tuner which I believe is very limited and I think the bike runs hot.
Its stock apart from KN air filter and long shots.
I have the standard headers and a Freedom sport muffler I am thinking of fitting, would this be better?
Would you also recommend I get the Power Vision or Maximus key

You don't say what year the bike is , but 103 is twin cam. I would prefer to use a power vision license to tune that bike. If the Black Super tuner is an original one from back in the day, it cam be upgraded to work fine. If it is a later one , chuck it in the bin.

yeah I always thought a Sport Glide was a M-8 107 with detachable bags and fairing?

The black harley tuner for twin cams was i believe,  for Street tuning. ( only a couple changes can be made) Where the Orange was the Race tune alot more changes available

Scouser said he had a 103. As they are yet to my knowledge to make a M8 103 I have given him and answer relating to twin cams. I repeat, if it is an early black dongle from back in the day, I can upgrade it to work( same as the orange ones) . If it is a later one throw it in the bin.

Yes the dealer who originally sold the bike sold it with one of the new EPA compliant black ones
    Why would you??

So it is an M8. The black tuner they supply is capable of flashing similar to stg 1 download etc for street use in California or similar. I also asked what year it is. I much prefer to use the PV license as the software I have is better for adjustment than the Maximus. The exception to that would be in the time window where maximus had cracked into the 2021 models before dynojet. The new Power vision for 2021 on is great to use and more adjustment.

    Hi
    Its a 2019.
Had Long Shots on it and a KnN filter
I dont like the long shots so i have put the standard headers back on with a 4 inch Freedom muffler

So, whomever you get to tune it, get whichever unlock key they prefer to use.

Gidday - new to the HD Forum.
I have a 08 Fatboy (18kms) in good condition. It has V&H slip ons + I recently arranged to have installed (HD Dealership) a Kuryakyn Hypercharger + a Maximus Direct Link Tuning Key.
Bike was running perfectly - however recently has started to play up backfiring, dropping power etc.
Went back to dealership - they said needs Dyno ($800) to iron out the air/fuel gremlins.
I thought the Maximus Direct Link Tuning Key had adaptable software, hence no need for bespoke dyno tuning time?

Any thoughts on poss issues where to look first / Or do I suck it up and go the dyno?

Clearly its the Hypercharger at fault - they may have left its flux capacitor unplugged.

Blue, if it was running fine after mods and the Maximus cal flash and it started to play up down the track there must be something amiss causing the problem, the tune could certainly be getting out of whack but something would be causing that, dyno tune won't sort it until they fix whatever is making it go haywire, lots of things can cause it, is it throwing any codes?

I would be checking intake for leaks. Replaced air cleaner once and had similar problems. Turned out that while playing around fitting a better air cleaner I had managed to cause a leak at the seals. Replace with new ones and she was good to go.
