    Hi All,

Just wondering how long the SE spark plugs last for. I understand that they should last longer but what does that mean. Going on a pretty long ride in a couple of weeks to places in the middle of no where so just trying to eliminate any possible issues that are easy to swap out. Current ones are about 13k old.

    Regards

I can’t tell you an exact number, as I’m just mug punter.
But I usually do 10,000kms a year. I just throw ‘em at that.
    Once a year isn’t a big deal.

Just wondering what the point of them is then? Ive been trying to work this out but there seems to be varying opinions.

I'd say the point of them is for HD marketing to increase sales by printing a Screamin' Eagle on items.

I haven't seen them myself but I thought the tip of them was different.

I thought they were iridium or platinum tip.

Had the SE plugs on my bike once but could not perceive any notable improvement in anything.
Come to think of it I don't think I have ever even had a bike let me down because of a dodgy spark plug. Er, except on my old guzzi which if it fell over the spark plug would usually break. But that is not the plugs fault.
It would be interesting, just for interests sake, to see how far you could actually go on one set of plugs and to compare brands. Reckon you could get at least one lap of the planet earth, probably more if there were such a road.
Where are the Mythbusters when you need them?.

as long as the bike is tuned well and has no mechanical issues spark plugs should last a very long time, SE or STD

I run the STD ones in mine and theyve been in for at least 5 years with no issues whatsoever.  I just check the gap on them once a year and thats that.  I may not ride it as much as others however they have well over 30k on them

The long ride will do them, and the motor in general good as well
