You probably have already but before spending the coin, make sure it's not your starter clutch, can make similar horrible noises and similar symptoms.
So you looking at the man o war compensator from dark horse?
Hey Fatbat
Lots of stuff about them on the yankee forums like hdtechtalk and hdforums.com
Just a note , my 2006 road king started to do the rattle thing in the compensator. when I took the cover off for a look, the big nut holding it in/together, was loose. , tightened it up and no worries since then.
Jersey there is more to it than just taking a new one out of the box and chucking it on, many do that and it works ok, some do not and you hear of those, they say stuff along the lines of Harley junk etc, following a proper procedure will give good results, the latest comp that has all the issues it's predecessors had addressed (thanks mainly to the aftermarket people finding solutions that Harley then incorporated into their updated comps) works well if it is set up right to begin with, there is much written on the the subject if you are interested.
Jersey heres the goss , Rollies were the Australian distributor for Baker but that relationship fucked up so as far as l know there is no Australian distributor. My model FLHT is an 09 they were notorious for shit compensators through 2011 model year . To fix the problem you need to buy a good second hand or new Rotor from a 2012 or later Twin Cam. You will also need inner primary gasket , inner primary main shaft seal and outer primary gasket. And while you have the inner primary off replace the mainshaft inner primary bearing as they are shit as well. lf you havent got a factory manual get one you will need it for guidance and the torque values. On that note with the baker compensator they call to torque the compensator bolt to 175 foot pound where the factory comp was 145, clutch shaft nut is left hand thread and its torque is 70 foot pound . Also if you are not replacing your primary chain dont forget to mark the direction of the chain before removing it. Now as far as The Baker comp goes there are plenty of good US shops who ship to Australia and sometimes with the dollar excahange and freight cost its not a lot of difference between local and theres. The last thing is if you havent got the tools or knowledge take it to a good shop with the goodies you bought and get them to fit it
Good on yah cobber, its one of the reasons we all had straight outs on our old bangers , pans and shovels so we couldnt here what was really going on between our legs. Probably explains why we cant here shit and the idiot box is at full noise
Mate, I am 60 and deaf as a post. Should prolly have hearing aids. 45 years of windnoise and a short stint of putting earbuds in to listen to music have fucked me. Mrs and kids just shake their head when I say What you say? Fuck em
Ha - I'm alright Jack!
