    Hi all.
I have a 2006 heritage softail classic that starts fine when cold and seems ok after a long ride.
But if I ride it 2km down the road and fill up from cold it is hard to start.
Seems like it fires but dies almost l I ke a pre ignition when turning over.
Any ideas on what it could be.
    Cheers Higgy

Had similar issue on bil’s heritage classic yesterday. put it down to some issue with battery as it had gone flat. Charged it up. Backfired ran rough and stalled when I pulled the clutch. I knew it was down a bit and As soon as I put more fuel in it went fine. So low fuel, dirty filter?

Battery test is easy enough. If you don’t have a tester go to battery world or similar.  Batteries tend to live longer and healthier when kept on trickle charge.

Also check/clean your Idle Air Control module. Google is your friend

I had the exact same problem with my victa lawnmower this afternoon.
I got it serviced by a local bloke last week. I had an early mark from work today so thought I would cut the grass.
Started first pull and off I went.  Went to empty the catcher but realized I needed to replenish my refreshing beverage
so I turned it off.  The bastard wouldnt start again.
Dont  mean to hijack your thread number 277 but we might get some ideas on what the problem / problems might be.

Quick update on the lawnmower. It was dark when I got home today but my curiosity got the better of me.
Started first pull. Ran it for a couple of minutes and turned it off. Went to start it again and it started.
Did this three or four times. Its starting and running like a champion.
It didnt get real hot though. I will see how it goes on Sunday when I use it in anger.
Thanks for all the helpful fukin suggestions.  ( Baloffski )
I know everybody is interested in the lawnmower hot / cold start up  so I shall lodge a progress report Sunday evening.

Another update on the Victa lawn mower maintenance strategy.  ( for all the people waiting with bated breath )
    It is fucked.
I have spent the last 3 Saturday afternoons trying to get it running right but it's not happening.

Old mate next door saw the trouble I was having and suggested I borrow his electric mower.
    It done the job fine.
I have decided to buy one.
    Anybody got any recommendations?

Get a flymo. Never have to worry about flat tyres either.

Get concrete, it doesn’t grow and you just hose stuff off. And you can paint it green

You going back to an electric Mower BB?
When I was a kid everyone had electric mowers, they had one problem, had to take care not to run over the electric lead. & if a big lawn needed a long extension .
50 years fast forward ( or backward? ) BB getting one.

Higgy, could be a few reasons why your Softail, might take a bit of power out your Battery when you fire it up & the two KM ride, does not put enough power back into the battery. Only way I could think of to check Battery. is check with a multi meter how many volts the battery has in it before you fire it up. Then when you fill the Tank after the short ride from home, have the multi meter with you & check how many volts the battery shows.

Apparently its a 70 fukin volt job.
It had the VICTA  logo on the machine

No recommendations but maybe what not to buy, I have an old Ryobi 36 volt job.
Bought a few years back as I have a two levels of lawn and it’s easy to carry up the stairs. However, it’s not good if you want to cut really short, the cowling around the blade drags on the grass and can bring g down. I ground it back about 10 mm but it didn’t help. It’s fine if you like your lawn say 40 mm.
On the up side the battery never ran flat and after four years is still used with other tools.
